Duplicate OTA Channels

#1

Post by edzucker » Mon Aug 31, 2020 8:31 pm

What is the best way to handle this with EPG123. According to Schedules Direct is is normal (see below). I was getting an error from EPG123. I went into the client and deleted the offending channel. There must be another way.

That's typically not an error, because there may be a fill-in transmitter while a station is transitioning to a new frequency, or setting up an ATSC 3.0 signal.

You can see that both 11.2's have the same content:

11.1: KTTVDT "KTTVDT (KTTV-DT)" [FOX] (stationID 20450) (uhfVhf: 11)
11.2: KCOPDT5 "KCOPDT5 (KCOP-DT5)" [FOX] (stationID 109538) (uhfVhf: 13)
11.2: KTTVDT2 "KTTVDT2 (KTTV-DT2)" [FOX] (stationID 66342) (uhfVhf: 11)
11.3: KTTVDT3 "KTTVDT3 (KTTV-DT3)" [LIGHTTV] (stationID 68615) (uhfVhf: 11)
11.3: KCOPDT6 "KCOPDT6 (KCOP-DT6)" [LIGHTTV] (stationID 109539) (uhfVhf: 13)
11.4: KTTVDT4 "KTTVDT4 (KTTV-DT4)" [DECADES] (stationID 112522) (uhfVhf: 11)

What error are you getting with EPG123? ... and what channel did you delete?

I think the only thing EPG123 should log is that mapping 11.2 was skipped during the automatch sequence.

EPG was saying that it couldn't map the channel(s) since they were already mapped. I deleted the 2 that said KCOP in the client. Before that I disabled them in Scheduled Direct. When that didn't change anything I un-checked them in the EPG123 config GUI.

After you unchecked them in the configuration GUI, did you perform a [Save & Execute]? Removing them from download would have removed them from the guide, but only after a new MXF file was created and imported.

The automatch routine uses the original channel number to map listings to the channel. Since you have 2 stations assigned virtual 11.x it will try to match both. For one, there will be no log entry because it is already assigned to that channel, the other will create the entry because there is something already there that is not the same as itself.

I am in a similar situation for one of my stations (9.1 on 2 different towers and frequencies) but I only download one of the 9.1's from Schedules Direct. Really I think the best method would be just to unselect the KCOPDTx stations assigned to 11.x channels.

I did regenerate the XMF after each change. I thought that eliminating it from the Schedules Direct data was the correct thing to do. I just went in there and deleted them (I had restored them yesterday). I will restore the changes I made to the client and regenerate the and import the XMF. When I tried that yesterday the duplicate channels still downloaded. I will post a log from my run.

Here is what it looks like now.
11-1 11 20450 KTTVDT KTTVDT (KTTV-DT)
11-2 11 66342 KTTVDT2 KTTVDT2 (KTTV-DT2)
11-3 11 68615 KTTVDT3 KTTVDT3 (KTTV-DT3)
11-4 11 112522 KTTVDT4 KTTVDT4 (KTTV-DT4)

I took a fresh look at this today. I had blocked the wrong channels. I blocked the proper unwanted channels in Schedules Direct and the EPG123 config GUI. After I ran EPG123 all is now OK. I will be aware of this situation going forward. Sorry to bother you.
