Why am I still getting Windows 7 Updates?!?

My Windows 7 HTPCs are still receiving updates from Microsoft.
Even this morning, I saw that my PC was recently updated.
All this doom, gloom, and threatening popups, yet they're still sending out updates?!?

What's the dealio?!?

There are still updates this month, and probably staggered so everyone will get them at different times. But this will be the last month for updates.

If you keep getting new updates into February, then you can probably ask what's up!

I got an update this morning . . . KBSecurity Intelligence Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Version 1.309.491.0). Guess that product is still supported for Windows 8.1 (?). Not an OS update.

You'll continue to get virus signature updates for MSE in Win7. There won't be any further engine updates.

You probably will, for up to another 3 years, actually.

There was also another update that came out, and I *think* there's a patch Tuesday this month for the general public, because the 2020-01 rollup was buggy so they're fixing that.

And if you're running Edge Chromium, that should run on Windows 7 for a full 3 years as well, longer than Chrome or FireFox.

Just received that one as well. Appears related to the stretching of wallpaper fix.

I'm also mad at these updates! Disconnected them completely!

Prices for quality programs are very high! A quick loan often helps me out!

Well, if you want to end them for good.... Start > Run (or search) type in services.msc Once services open, Scroll down to Windows Update, Open it, Under "Service Status:" hit Stop and then under "Startup type:" select "Disabled"

On Windows 7 this will completely disable updates. You can leave it in Manual mode, this will not automatically download them but, you can go into Windows update and select "search for updates" and it will download them till the next time you reboot.

If it's disabled, the only way to take updates is to enable it back in Manual mode, or automatic mode...
