New channels removed at EPG update

#1

Post by dxcc2009 » Mon Mar 02, 2020 5:00 pm

Hello,
I have been using EPG123 since December without a flaw.
However last week a local station added 3 new sub channels. I realize it may be a while before schedules direct has the programming for these channels, I am willing to give time for that. However each day when EPG123 updates the listings, it turns off the 3 new ones. I then have to go back into the channel edit page and add them back on so I can watch them even though I don't have the programming data yet.
How do I stop EPG from removing these new channels each day???

Change your scheduled task to not perform the automatch. It will then leave the channels alone.

(I work for Schedules Direct)

Don't wait a few days; open a lineup support ticket and let us know, so that if the channels aren't in the lineup we can start that process.

Is there any way to do this without turning off automatch? Perhaps assigning (incorrect) guide data to the channels?

Yes, if you assign listings from another station, then the channel will not be automatically disabled. Everything about the channel will be wrong, though.

Yes, but if ShedulesDirect/Gracenote adds the channels to the lineup, will they automatically be changed to the correct listings?

No. If the listings are still a valid channel in a lineup, then it will stay. EPG123 will leave it alone and assume the user knows better.

I assume this is only the case if the channel listing was manually set by the user. If the channel was pointing to a guide listing due to it being that way in the downloaded lineup, and that lineup changes, that channel will re-point to the new listing automatically.

If this is the case, is there any way to tell the difference between a channel that has a manually assigned listing and channel that has had a listing automatically assigned (and is therefore subject to an automatic change if the downloaded lineup changes)?

Correct, assuming automatch was enabled. The 'Automatically add...' option would also need to be enabled if the "new" station was new to the lineup as well.

EPG123 will never be smart enough, or clairvoyant enough, to understand that a user would assign guide listings to a channel that it didn't belong to waiting for something better. The indication you will see in the log file is entries similar to the below. It thinks there is another station that belongs on that channel, but there is already something assigned to it.

Code: Select all

[2/17/2020 12:18:03 AM] [ INFO] Skipped matching HBOP to channel 1803 due to channel already having an assigned listing.

Will that message be logged once, or every time the client loads a new MXF file?

Every time.

EDIT: if automatch is enabled.
