Went into WMC, channel guide deleted?!?

#1

Post by Joram » Sun Feb 02, 2020 12:42 am

Tonight I launched WMC to check on a program that I normally record Saturday evenings and was shocked to see that not only was it not recording, but there weren't even any recordings scheduled to take place in the future.

When I went into the program guide, the channels are listed (spot-checking suggests they are correct) but there is "no data available" for ANY channel. The EPG123 icon in the bottom right corner when you first launch WMC is green but has a date of 2/1/2020.

A trip to the "EPG123 Configuration" program reports the last run at 5:19AM on 2/1/2020, with an error code of 0x00000000.

And here's the strangest part: while the EPG123 Client Guide Tool lists the proper channel listings for my area, the Configuration program doesn't list any lineups and reports the lineup USA-PA66100-X as "DELETED." I most certainly did not perform this deletion.

Anybody have a clue what might be going on here, and how to fix it (and prevent it from happening again)? I'll be happy to provide log files and screenshots.

FWIW, I'm on EPG123 version 1.3.4.

For the deleted lineup, you will need to contact Schedules Direct (submit a ticket) to fix/find out what is going on. I am highly concerned that EPG123 would have proceeded with an update with 0 channels though. Could you send me your trace.log file to support@garyan2.net? I have protections in place to not allow this to happen if that is the cause.

Okay, got your logs. EPG123 worked correctly... the problem is you are not using EPG123 in your guide. You are still using the MS/Rovi guide which of course doesn't exist any more. Open the client, select the EPG123 lineup from the right side pulldown menu, and then click the Match by: [# Number] button on the left side.

I would also suggest upgrading EPG123 to version 1.3.5 to get a bug corrected that existed in v1.3.4.

Wow, that is very odd. This new WMC system (set up over the summer) had stopped getting Rovi data in late December / early January, which is was prompted me to finally switch it to SD/EPG123. Everything was working great (or seemed to be working) until this.

What should I do next--wait until the guide info gets updated automatically overnight?

UPDATE -- I'm following the instructions given on page 5 of the EPG123 guide. When I get to the "Add New" dialog, enter the correct country and ZIP Code, and then click on "Fetch," I get a result that says, "No headends found for entered postal code and country."

I'm confused... are you going through another EPG123 setup starting with the [Client Setup]? That wasn't necessary, though I would have recommended it. The problem is your lineup is currently "DELETED" and you won't be able to download anything until Schedules Direct gets that fixed for you. Did you submit a ticket with them?

You should just close the configuration GUI and perform a [Manual Import] from the client. The MXF file is from 1/31, but it will populate out to at least 2/15. Once the import is complete, click the Match by: [# Number] button on the left side of the client.

Yeah, I decided to start from scratch. I also opened a ticket with SD.

But I made fixing this the evening's project and finally got everything working again (fingers crossed). All that happened before I came back here and saw your post, so I may have done more work than was needed. But it was a learning experience. Next time it won't be so hard. :-)

I'll also get back to SD and close the ticket.

Thanks for your great help!

One final bit of information that may shed light on what happened: SD got back to me (very quickly BTW) and reported that
Verizon told our upstream to delete the lineup. If you go through "add a lineup" function in EPG123 again, you'll see that there's a new Verizon lineup available, called "USA-PA71515-X"
(emphasis added)

Whoa!

FWIW, the new lineup has three more channels than the old one, including Bloomberg TV and Yahoo Finance. (Don't know what the third new channel is.)

I had the same issue occur today, but none of the same systems. It all looks good in EPG123 configuration. I had data yesterday for two weeks ahead, and now my guide it blank.

Open the client and click the [Manual Import] button... select the epg123.mxf file and wait for it to complete.

It fixed itself during its daily update this morning. However, all the previously "disabled" channels in WMC were "enabled" again and I had to change them again.
