EPG123 Bad Install? *Newbie*

#1

Post by jasmithvr6 » Wed Jan 01, 2020 9:23 pm

So I'm part of the "wait until dooms day comes" group to make any changes to my WMC setup. Here's my existing setup:

Windows 7 WMC
Verizon FIOS cablecard
Centon 4 tuner card
HDHR 2 tuner QAM external box (non-DVR)

I followed the instructions to install EPG123. Seemed pretty straight forward. The channel guide info starting pulling in, but there are many channels that still show No Data Available and there's no logo. I've given it a few hours now. How long does it take to refresh? I tried manually 'subscribing' a few of the missing channels per one of the other threads, but it doesn't seem to work (could easily be user error). For example, MSGN (Madison Square Garden Network) has no guide info for any channel (SD or HD). Looking at EPG123Client under Guide Channels (left side) I see there are also a lot of channels with multiple channels listed under Tuninginfo. There are also several channels with multiple Scanned Sources (Digital tuner and QAM).

I'm thinking I botched something along the way during install and not sure how to fix the problem. Ideally, I'm trying to get back to my original configuration, which was merging QAM channels with FIOS digital channels (so only one, single channel/guide listing would show for both...mainly talking about HD channels). I had the Centon tuner card as priority recording with the HDHR as a secondary (6 tuners in all, but WMC would always use Centon tuners first). Appreciate any help during getting back on track.

Been working on this all day and heading to dinner in a few, but will check back as soon as I'm home. Thanks again!

By your description, it sounds like you did not deny the Program Guide Terms of Service when you did Step 2. That means you downloaded the tuner configurations from MS/Rovi. Also, if you have more than 1 lineup available on the right side pull down, anything that does not start with EPG123 is from MS/Rovi.

Correct, I did not deny the Program Guide Terms of Service in Step 2. I thought I read in an earlier thread today (the one with the set-top box?) that MS/Rovi stopped updates and to accept the Program Guide Terms of Service. Sounds like I shouldn't have done that...ugh.

So what's the best way to clean up the mess I made?

Best thing to do is perform a [Client Setup] again from the client. It will go quicker this time, and you have had practice :P .

It looks like users using set-top-boxes should probably accept the ToS for now just so they can get channels in their guide. I'm going to have to experiment with that hardware/software to see if there is anything I can do there. Otherwise, everyone else needs to deny the ToS.

Thanks Gary. I'll go through the Client setup/install again and report back if I have any issues.

Question: Do I need to delete anything from the previous install or will this overwrite/replace what's already there? Any tips for setting up the HDHR ClearQAM?

ClearQAM setups take a bit more effort. You will have to manually map most, if not all, the guide listings to the channels. Cable companies will use what appears to be totally random channel and subchannel numbers for their open channels and EPG123/SD has no idea what those could be. http://epg123.garyan2.net/install/step3p3/

Gary, all I can say is YOU'RE MY HERO!!!!!!

Performed the Client setup again and after selecting deny to the Program Guide Terms of Service, all is working/feeding as it should!!! I still need to track down a few call signs and merge the HDHR QAM channels into the identical FIOS channels, but all is right in the world again and most importantly with the WAF!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
