Installation not working

#1

Post by n4mwd » Tue Dec 31, 2019 2:07 pm

I haven't had much luck here getting this installed. First off, the instructions say to run the setup program. There is NO setup program. I ran the main EPG123.exe and followed the prompts and it went through a bunch of stuff and logged in to my SD account getting channel lineups and such. Nothing. I went to MC settings and GUIDE and clicked download. It flashed the hdd for several minutes and then quit. Still no guide listings.

Then I decided to run EPG123Client.exe and it immediately comes up complaining that it can't find my dot net stuff. I checked in the control panel and dotnet v4 is there. I clicked the YES (do you want to install it) to reinstall dotnet. It opens up firefox to a non-microsoft web site and says "connection-reset". Hitting try again numerous times yields the same result.

Running EPGTransfer.exe does the same thing. Hitting No (do you want to install it) just aborts the program.

What is going on and why wont it go past the dot net stuff when its already installed.

EPG123 needs .NET 4.0 Full. If you run the epg123Setup_v1.3.x.y.exe file it will start the need installation. To run the Client Setup, you need to be able to open the client and see the button. Installing .NET 4 Full looks like that is what you need.

For installation, please take a look at the video to help with understanding the instructions. http://epg123.garyan2.net/install/

There is no setup file in the install package. I downloaded epg123_v1.3.3.40.zip which was the latest on the day that I downloaded it. However, I just went to re-download it and now there seems to be a separate setup.exe file as a second download.

The latter worked very well. I didn't realize that two downloads were necessary. Its still not 100%, but getting there.

Your initial download was of the portable package... not the install package (epg123Setup_v1.3.3.40). The install package includes the setup file for .NET 4 Full to avoid the mess that is Windows trying to install a .NET package separately. Only 1 of the downloads is necessary but since you didn't have the right .NET installed it made things difficult to proceed.

I think it installed, but its not working properly.

First off, the actual guide data seems to be there for the most part. I had to "Add missing channels" and re-link them and that works now. However, several regular programs are showing as "Paid Programming". It let me select Record for that one instance, but when I hit Record again to record the series, it locked the computer.

The Transfer Tool shows all my shows on the right and green. However, they still aren't all showing up under Sheduled Programs.

Lastly, I was able to lock the computer again when I went to delete one of the scheduled programs that wasn't showing up. RecordedTV->ViewScheduled->Series->The program->Right Click->Cancel Series.

I rebuilt the databases and that seemed to help a little and more, but not all shows are showing up. I'm going to try adding them again manually.

Could you send me your trace.log file to support@garyan2.net along with the name of the regular program that is showing as "Paid Programming"? Even better is if you make a [Backup] and send the resulting zip file as well.

If it is green, everything was good last update. If it is a yellow '!', then there is a warning in the log (if you are using a trial version, then it is warning you that it is expiring within 14 days), if it is a red 'X', then an error occurred and you did not get an update.

Okay, everything pretty much looks good... and you were busy adding VHF channels and deleting unwanted channels!

For your recording, it looks like there is no airing of that series within the next 17 days. You didn't let me know which channel it was scheduled to be on, but neither Zap2it (https://tvlistings.zap2it.com/) nor TV Guide (https://www.tvguide.com/) have that series airing this coming Sunday. Some knowledge to tuck away... Zap2it is Gracenote which is the same as Schedules Direct, and TV Guide is Rovi.

For recording Paid Programming, EPG123 doesn't flag them as a series so you can't do a series record.

I did find another airing on another channel that is listed properly. I looked at TVGuide.com, TitanTV and a few others and they all had "Paid Program". Apparently Microsoft must have modified the data stream. Anyhow, I filed a complaint with SD to see if they can get their data source to correct it.

Otherwise, how hard would it be to modify EPG123 to allow customization of "Paid Program" entries? Or a separate program to directly modify the MC database? Just asking. The other channel I found it on is a lot weaker and comes and goes.

I don't think that is going to happen (adding ability to modify guide data). Not by me anyway.

If the time slot is not correct when it gets close, you can always do a manual record in WMC a-la VCR style. You tell it what time, what channel, and how long... you can even give it a name.

If all 3 of those sources are saying Paid Programming, I tend to believe that is what the station is telling them. It could be just that the station has not yet given them the correct programming.

Yeah, its probably going to have to be manual recordings. I'll check the broadcast TV listings when it gets closer to Sunday.

Its already recorded a few programs correctly so I think its working.

Now if I can find some way to put all the streaming channels, youtube and netflix back in.
