WMC programming guide warning

#1

Post by middlfam » Fri Nov 29, 2019 1:40 am

Since I use EPG123, I do not care that Microsoft is ending support for the default programming guide. The constant warning about that is annoying. Is there any way to get rid of that warning?

I've only seen it that one time back in September and never seen it since. Did you click the [Learn More] button? Maybe that is the trigger to stop the message.

Same here. Every time I press the guide button, the warning appears.

Same here. I installed EPG123 on my Windows 7 computer last week, and everything worked great. Tonight I installed it on my parent's Windows 7 computer and the warning comes up every time I click on the guide. I came home and booted up my computer, and now it's doing it to. It's very annoying, and I'd sure love to know how to turn it off.

My guess is that it has to be a KB that they recently installed, a matter of finding which it is and getting rid of it. My best guess.

i checked and nothing was installed on mine.

i thought that the WMC Sys-Tray icon having a check-mark next to, "Enable Automatic Updates" could have caused an update. but no nothing new.

i got rid of it doing the following:

-logged off and back on.
-started WMC and nag still popped-up.
-then clicked big green button after playing a recording and nag still popped-up.
-then clicked on guide and nag still popped-up.
-but then it went away after viewing a couple live channels. :)

Just tonight, the annoying popup on WMC stating Microsoft is stopping the EPG in Jan is popping up every action I take. I am already on EPG 123, so this is very annoying is this going to happen for another month and a half?

I never installed 'KB4493132' so I've never gotten this, but uninstalling the patch should do the trick:

As of tgis morning I am no longer getting the Microsoft warning; I am also not getting the EPG123 status logo displayed in the lower right corner of the screen. I will see whether either of these returrn. I may uninstall the patch mentioned above.

Same after one more instance of it happening on initial WMC start up today. EPG123's logo is fine for me. And I have never had KB4493132 installed on my system nor have any option to uninstall it, so whatever caused this is still lurking.

Both my family's computers have recovered from it too, and I'm glad it's gone. Must have been a Thanksgiving Day Easter Egg.

When I got the initial warnings in September, I switched to EPG123 and then the warning went away. Just the other night I began getting it again. But having done like @Bee_Dee_3_Dee, it seems to have gone away now. I hope it is gone forever. Not helping...

Though I never got the pleasure of seeing the warning again, it sure got quite a few folks excited. Here is a snapshot of the website for yesterday... Thanksgiving, no less.

MS is great :D
I have directed at least one guy to your site, just because of this warning. He didn't know he has an option to extend the life of his WMC...
