Recording HEVC Fios Channel

#1

Post by Eagle784 » Wed Jun 12, 2019 9:05 pm

Has anyone been able to record the Women's World Cup using WMC on Windows 7 and a Ceton PCI-E 4 tuner on Fios Channel 1499? It's recording audio only, and the screen in WMC just says Digital Audio Service.
Even assuming an HEVC codec isn't available to WMC, I would have expected the video stream to record so I could play it back in another player. Anyone know if this is a tuner limitation? Thanks.

My 3 wild guesses are that it's a limitation of the tuner, wmc stream buffer engine, or a codec limitation. The newest version of LAV will at least pass hevc to the renderer I believe. Do you have any extra codecs installed?

The later versions of ffdshow might support hevc as well. I'm not sure how the live TV decoder being locked down plays into this.

Silicondust actually had to push a fix for Verizon 4k channels recently. They also mention a requirement for a hevc decoder.

I am pretty sure WMC can only record MPEG2 and h.264 from a cablecard device. WMC uses the WTV container, and it only supports those two codecs as far as I know. You might be able to record it with another program, I don't know if there is any limitation with the Ceton card in this regard.

EDIT:

Here is a another thread: viewtopic.php?t=12023

I don't have any other codecs installed - would prefer to avoid this especially since I'm not interested in playing these back in WMC and the channel is Copy Freely.

Any suggestions on another program that can record HEVC with a Ceton tuner? Thanks for the assistance.
