Signal Strength and multiple switches

#1

I have 4 Windows 7 media centers, 3 cable card Silicon Dust tuners, and 1 Silicon Dust Connect Quatro (over the air tuner). These are in different rooms in my home. All are hard wired. I use multiple switches (all are gigabit). In my main room I have a 16 port Linksys switch. In other rooms I have 4/6 port switches. I run network cable from the 16 port switch to different rooms, to a 4/6 port switch which go different devices in the room. I have had problems with pixelization on live TV and recorded TV on some channels. I’m wondering what might be causing/contributing to this. Possibilities? - signal going through multiple switches? Network cable Cat rating (5, 6)? Is there a definitive way to check this? Is there a way to test signal strength?

could be your storage disk. Slower, failing or older drives are known to cause pixilation. How much other traffic is on your network, are you sharing torrents or anything else that would cause traffic? What about your router?

Read the last post about how to run the Low Level Test for Packet loss.
