What to do with Ceton Windows 7 setup
Now that Windows 7 has less than a year of support left, what are people here planning to do with their Ceton WMC setups?
Currently I have a Windows 7 box with a Ceton 4 tuner card subscribed to a package that includes premium channels like HBO (even if it doesn't I'm pretty sure the basic channels round here are encrypted/copy once flag enabled). It's served me well in the years since I've built it and I'm honestly pissed that Microsoft has abandoned WMC - for all the lack of adoption it had I still think it's the best DVR system I've worked with (Myth/Kodi being the other ones I've played with).
So from what I've seen there are a few options:
- Rebuild (I'd rather start clean than upgrade, unless there's a compelling reason to not to) using Windows 8 (I'm assuming that one can still get a WMC pack license, is that true?)
- Rebuild using Windows 10 (this sounds like it could be dicey)
- Get an HDHomerun Prime and add the DVR subscription (does this work with HBO and other encrypted content?)
- ???

D) Do nothing
As stated many times on this forum, your system will not suddenly stop working once Microsoft ends support. Yes, you won't receive any more security updates, but as long as you don't use your system for web browsing or general every day use, it is fine.

I have Win 7 Ultimate and wondering the same. I am thinking of getting an android TV box with Plex and using that.

If Locast keeps building out and expanding, an all-streaming setup outside of 7MC might be feasible.
