EPG123 v1.1.20 BETA

#1

Post by garyan2 » Mon Feb 19, 2018 3:21 am

Calling all beta testers. I have a stable beta release that includes quite a few enhancements and I would like feedback before pushing ahead further to a full release.

EPG123 is now able to create an XMLTV file along with the MXF file. This has been asked for in the past and has been on my list for quite some time. For those that need XMLTV to support IPTV streams, this may be what you need.
EPG123 Client now shows some tuning info for your merged channels. This information is on the left side list, furthest column to the right.
Both GUIs now remember size and locations.

EPG123 Client can now add tuner channels to the scanned lineup. Currently will only work with ATSC and ClearQAM with Hauppauge Software Tuner possibly coming soon. To add capability for other tuners, I need samples from you good folk. The window will detail what tuner type is not yet supported. I am currently in need of examples for:
  • {adb10da8-5286-4318-9ccb-cbedc854f0dc}
  • AuxIn1
  • Antenna
  • Cable
  • ATSCCable
  • DigitalCable
  • DVB-C
  • ISDB-T
  • ISDB-S
  • ISDB-C
If you are willing to help out, I will need you to use the [Backup] button in the client and then email the resulting zip file in the [epg123]\backup folder. Just PM me and I'll send you the email address.

http://epg123.garyan2.net/downloads/epg ... ETA_w7.zip
http://epg123.garyan2.net/downloads/epg ... A_w8.1.zip
http://epg123.garyan2.net/downloads/epg ... ETA_w8.zip

There's some other minor improvements, but really all about adding some new capabilities.

Sorry, everybody. I guess I should show how to add new channels. There is a new green 'PLUS' (+) button above the left side listings. Click that and it will bring up the window to add channels.

Also, here is the link for the BETA install if you want to go full board beta tester. http://epg123.garyan2.net/downloads/epg ... 20BETA.zip

Thanks for all your hard work. As requested here's something that happened this morning when I opened the client interface...

I can't say I understand everything ... I had some theories but this may have disproved some of them. Do you still have 41.2, 41.3, and 41.4? I could understand if you didn't have all 4, but if only 1 disappeared ... I don't know.

The one thing I do know is that any channels that do not have tuners associated with them are not shown in the guide, or even in the edit channels area of WMC. So EPG123 deleted something that you didn't even have access to in the first place.

When I noticed that 41.1 had been deleted, I went ahead and set up all 4 channels.
-> I had to delete the existing 41.2 and 41.4 because they looked strange.
-> 41.3 didn't exist so I set it up.
After I set them up they all tuned properly (except 41.3), they just didn't have any guide data. I submitted a ticket to Schedules Direct and am currently waiting for a reply.

Last night before I went to bed they were in the guide and live.
EPG123 ran its scheduled task at 12:15AM with no issues:

This morning they do not show up in the guide.
They do show up in the "Edit Channels" section of WMC, but deselected.
They also show up in the EPG123 client, again deselected.

41.1, 41.2, and 41.4 are currently re-enabled and verified live. I'm not sure what's going on with 41.3, but for now I'd like to disregard it until I hear back from Schedules Direct and do some more research.

Is there any further information I can provide?

Once again, thank you for all your work on this program!

You've got automatch enabled but are not downloaded the 41.x stations. So when it runs an update and goes through the automatch routine, it will disable the channels since there is no guide listings.

Do you possibly have a different version of epg123 running from a different location for you updates? This could explain if you had guide listings for 41.x last night but they disappeared after the update... 2 different configurations.

What is AuxIn1? Would this be something like a video capture input? Sorry for my ignorance. i grabbed this because it has the xmltv feature but I won't have time to toy around with it for a while.

I would assume so. The Tuner Types I listed are defined by WMC. Tuner types I already have examples for are:
  • ATSC
  • ClearQAM
  • dxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx for Hauppauge software tuner
  • DVB-S
  • DVB-T
I don't expect to get examples of all the tuner types since some of them are no longer used. Basically the client software will tell you what type your tuner is when you click the + button.

I have one of these in a sony VGX I just fixed up but I never had time to figure everything out. I think it uses channel 3 (like the old TVs??) as the "Channel" for video input. Ill have to set this up, and let you know how it turns out. What would be really nice is to find an HDMI internal capture card that supports HDCP. Do you suppose that GUID is the internet TV software tuner??

I think at this point I'll have to see if Schedules Direct is going to add guide information for these channels.

I'm sorry Gary, please allow me to clarify. The channels were in the guide and are live/viewable but did not have any listings. This is how they look in the guide.

This is a standalone system and only runs the (most of the time) current version. My process is to download the zip file and overwrite the exe's in the program directory. I do perform an automated backup to a network share every morning, but this is the only machine running WMC and EPG123.

My other TV's are connected directly to an antenna and my other machines aren't used for entertainment. The only share is the one for backup purposes and is mapped to my backup machine.

No, not internet TV. The structure of the tuner type for the GUID one is of the number/subnumber/modulation type. The structure for software tuners, as in the Hauppauge tuner, is text based which may support a stream ... dunno.

There is nothing in the GUID tuner that could support a stream.

I just noticed this about my recording schedule and it's only because I watch an episode of Dr Phil every afternoon.

When I went in to play today's episode there wasn't any. I thought that was strange so I went into the history to see if maybe it was preempted or had a recording failure... Nothing.
  • I went into the series settings and everything was setup correctly.
  • I went into the search function and it found a ton of episodes, but none were set to record.
  • I cancelled the series and then selected "Record Series" and it showed that the listed episodes would be recorded.
  • I went to "View Scheduled" and it showed up daily like it usually does.
That's when I noticed that another regular show wasn't on the schedule, The Outer Limits. It turned out to be the same anomaly as above, so I performed the same steps.

Then I wondered how many series were affected. The first series that should have had recordings exhibited the same anomaly. It was AP Bio... Here are some screenshots.
  • Image 1 - Under "Search" it shows episodes but none set to record. This is a new show so they should all record.
  • Image 2 - Series Info - scheduled recordings = None.
  • Image 3 - Series settings...
The only thing that's changed is using the beta version and it ran its first update last night. It looks like I'm going to have to go through every series and cancel it and then set it back up again... Unless there's an easier way?? Please advise.

That doesn't make sense ... there is nothing different in the MXF file created between v1.1.19 and the beta v1.1.20. Question: if you go into a series that is not working and simply change a/any setting (channel would be easiest) and save, does it then populate? If so, the fix is easy. Give me some time to get home from work and I will send out what you need to do.

Did you get a warning at some point that WMC encountered an error and had to rebuild?

Well... since I had to go into each show that I knew should have recordings it was trivial to cancel and then recreate it from the search screen.
The weird thing is... It's not every show that's missing, just some. It doesn't seem to have any pattern either.
EDIT: I just tried to change items in AP Bio and then save it. I did this three times to three separate items and it still didn't set any episodes to record.
garyan2 wrote:Give me some time to get home from work and I will send out what you need to do.
Ummm... At this point I'm more concerned with the programs that have been setup over time but aren't currently airing. How do I determine if they'll record when they return? Every series "appears" to be set up correctly but it's not assured that they'll record when the time comes.
EDIT: This is no rush... It's a beta test and I'd like to see what happens when it updates tonight. If it does the same thing tomorrow, then maybe we can start looking deeper to see what's happening. It may be something to do with the 41's getting deleted?
garyan2 wrote:Did you get a warning at some point that WMC encountered an error and had to rebuild?
No. And I've gone through the event logs for WMC and EPG123 and the only errors and warnings are the ones that showed up in the trace.log that I posted earlier.

Hmmm... well, this probably won't work but you can try to run the PvrScheduleTask from the Task Scheduler or command line it with "C:\Windows\ehome\mcupdate.exe -PvrSchedule".

I'll try to recreate it here. Question... when you created the new 41.x channels, did you use the beta client or did you use WMC?

The only one that I'm sure is wonky right now is AP Bio. I left it the way it was because that's the one that I used as an example. I ran the command line option as administrator and normally. No effect.

I won't know about the programs that don't have current recordings until they come back on the air.

I used the beta client to add them and (see below) I had to delete duplicates that looked weird. I don't know how to explain that except I knew they didn't look right...

-> I had to delete the existing 41.2 and 41.4 because they looked strange.
-> 41.3 didn't exist so I set it up.
Side Note: I received an email from Schedules Direct that they were looking at adding listings for the 41's.

Also... I'm onboard with running this beta version because this is a standalone machine and cloned (and backed up) to the point that I can restore it pretty easily UNLESS it starts smoking...

EDIT: Signing off for the night. I'll let you know how things look in the morning! Have a great evening!

I failed to recreate any of that behavior on my test benches. Out of curiosity, could you open the Transfer Tool ... are all the series requests on the right side green?

Good Morning!
  • Yes, they're all green.
  • Last night before I signed off I verified that the 41's were in the guide. This morning they were gone from the guide but were still in the "edit channels" section (unmarked).
  • AP Bio, no change. There are qualified episodes but they aren't in the scheduler.
  • I found another program that exhibited the same behavior, but it may have been one that I missed yesterday? Went ahead and deleted it and set it back up again.
  • Event Viewer and trace.log have no warnings or errors except for the version warning.

Is there anywhere else I could look for clues as to why this happened?

Ok... this is strange. I just found this in the Action Center.

Funny thing is, I wasn't aware and didn't even know it happened.

This is the event log for that time period.

At 4:00:58PM I deleted (and then setup) The Outer Limits. There was no crash before or at that time. That's when I started to go methodically back and forth through the series and deleting and setting up the programs that were wonky. That's what all those subsequent "recordings" are.

The reason I pointed out Dr Phil is because it was properly scheduled and recorded on the 19th. It should have recorded again on the 20th at 11:00AM. The only thing that happened between those two times was the scheduled task for EPG123 v1.20 BETA at 12:16:48AM. (DC's Legends of Tomorrow was recorded properly at 8:03PM)

This just gets freakier and freakier... :wtf:

Agree, definitely weird... at 4:00PM when you opened WMC, you should have seen a message that an error occurred and had to be recovered and that you should check your scheduled recordings.

So, my suggestion for your current recordings and future recordings is to use the Transfer Tool.
1. Select all recordings on the right side and right-click -> Cancel. This will cancel all your current scheduled recordings.
2. Click the [Open recordings backup file] and navigate to the backup zip file you created right after you downloaded the BETA.
3. Click the [>>>] button.
4. Open WMC and check your scheduled recordings ... everything should be back.
