I am having an issue with the TweakWMC functionality on my Windows 7 x64 WMC machine. I have all of the settings in My Channel Logos XL set back to their default settings. When I change any of the TweakWMC settings, no changes are reflected in my Windows Media Center.

Do you have any idea on how to get the changes to be reflected?

The picture of your wmc is showing 10 rows from MCL, is this after you set MCL back to defaults? When you try changes with TweakWMC, do you click the [Update] button?

Both TweakWMC and MCL XL modify the file "C:\Windows\ehome\Microsoft.MediaCenter.Shell.dll" to make the changes and if need to, take ownership. If that is failing, the changes won't take for either program. You could try to run both programs as administrator to see if there are any changes.

Both pictures are after I set my WMC to default settings in My Channel Logos XL and modified the settings in the epg123Client_w7.exe. I have also clicked update at the bottom of the Tweak WMC page. Lastly, running both tools as admin makes no difference.

After changing settings in the TweakWMC GUI and clicking update, I see that my "C:\Windows\ehome\Microsoft.MediaCenter.Shell.dll" file has an updated modified date. No changes are reflected in WMC however.

Any ideas?

Are you running anything that could override the settings in memory like Media Center Themer? Another option, which should not be an issue, is WMC has to be closed when the modifications are done and should see the changes when it opened again. If, for some reason, WMC doesn't successfully get closed by MCL or EPG, then the old settings might still be in memory. EPG123 kills all the ehome.exe and ehexthost.exe processes to close WMC and extenders before applying the updates.

When you open the TweakWMC window, does it show 10 rows, 120 minutes? If it does, then that is what is in the file.

I am not running Media Center Themer. WMC is not open when making changes - I also tried to reboot.

Right now my TweakWMC shows 7 rows, but 10 rows still shows up in WMC.

Well that is definitely interesting. The parameters in the file are correct, so WMC is getting the 10 rows from somewhere. Have you used some other program in the past to set guide rows? MCE Reset Toolbox?

Actually, this is starting to sound like the dll file is corrupted and WMC is reverting back to an older version which had 10 rows in it. MCL and EPG123 are successfully modifying the file in the ehome folder, but it is not being used.

You could uninstall WMC and reinstall, or copy over a good dll from another computer and see if that works.

not using MCE Reset Toolbox either. I will debug further and let you know what I find. Thanks!

I reset my Media Center and still have this issue. I also tried copying the modified files from my original Windows 7 SP1 x64 cd (which didnt work).

When I use your app to modify my guide, WMC has no call signs or logos - just blank boxes.

My Channel Logo XL and your app can change the width of the channel/logo box on the guide, but only MCL is able to properly change what is displayed in the channel/logo box.

Neither app can change the size of the logo or number of rows in the guide - it seems to be stuck at 10.

How can I help you debug this better? Could this be a Windows 7 limitation?

Appreciate your help -Happy New Year!

Been following along with your problem. It's not a Windows 7 limitation, as all three of my Win 7 HTPCs with MCL work fine with epg123 and its Tweaker, and all the latest Client versions.

Pending confirmation from Gary about how this might affect MCL, you could try uninstalling MCL completely (assuming you have the reg info to reinstall it), reboot, then try just epg123's Tweaker. Might be worth a try. Good luck!

Well, that was extremely painful. I just went through all the possible MCL XL changes in the resource files so that the Tweak tool can "restore" them automatically. No need to use MCL XL to go back to original before using the Tweak GUI. That being said, the tool should now at least get you to being able to change the channel/logo cell. New binaries at http://epg123.garyan2.net/downloads/epg ... t_beta.zip.

Sometime today, I will probably create a version that will save a copy of the resource files I am editing so we can compare to what we expect to see.

Do you perhaps have a modified ehres.dll? I haven't looked too deep into that one, but it may have something that overrides some settings.

I don't think uninstalling MCL XL will do anything but it is worth a try. MCL doesn't reside in memory so it is hard to believe it could override anything epg123 does to WMC (other than autopopulate some logos).

Yea, uninstalling MCL XL did not help. I was able to modify Media Center's layout in the Guide using MCE Reset Toolbox. Once I do that, however, the Tweak WMC tool gives the following error when clicking the "Tweak WMC" button:

Code: Select all

Well that's just perfect. I'll check out to see what MCEReset does and why Tweak considers it invalid.

Yea, uninstalling MCL XL did not help. I was able to modify Media Center's layout in the Guide using MCE Reset Toolbox. Once I do that, however, the Tweak WMC tool gives the following error when clicking the "Tweak WMC" button:

Code: Select all

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

I'm not getting any errors so far. What were your settings in MCE Reset Toolbox? and what version are you running?

Rows in EPG (7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 13 Small)
Rows in Mini EPG (2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
EPG Timeline (2, 3, 4 hours)
Channel Numbers (Invisible, Visible)
AutoSize (On, Off)
Guide Logos (Large, Normal)
Align Guide Logos (Left, Center, Right)

Well, that's interesting. I was trying a bunch of settings and when I got to setting the guide logos alignment to center that I got the same error. The interesting part is that now I get the error always regardless of settings.

Okay, however MCEReset updates the resource, it seems to be prone to corrupting the beginning of the file by adding invalid (padding?) characters. I can adapt.

also found out that there will be even more settings I need to cleanup like I did for MCL XL last night... bummer.

Updated the beta clients with the fix for the invalid xml errors. Before trying to use the client to modify WMC settings again, I would use MCE RTB, I would change the settings back to WMC defaults.

7 Row EPG
2 Row Mini EPG
2 hour EPG Timeline
Channel Number Visible - unchecked
AutoSize Off - unchecked
Normal - unchecked
Right guide logos alignment

I set my settings back to these and downloaded the newest beta client. I am able to open Tweak WMC without issues, but when trying to click update, I get the following error:
