I think I might have a rudimentary idea to sidestep the guide issues that may result in having to go through Media Center setup (objectrecovery) after an outage.

I run two Media Center systems. One uses CableCard and the other uses dual Hauppauge HD PVR USB units (DVBLink for Hauppauge HDPVR) and dual Silicondust HDHomeRun units in ATSC mode. The CableCard system seems to get through guide outages fine without intervention for recovery. The dual Hauppauge / dual Silicondust system always fails to recover properly though. They OTA channels via the Silicondust HDHomeRun tuners have no guide data updates after an outage and their corresponding cable channels (over cablebox via Hauppauge HD PVR) are also affected the same way.

Typically I'll do a objectrecovery which often requires that I go through setup again. Given the difficulties and complications that sometimes arise when going through setup these days this is a less then ideal solution. So I started cloning the system drive and have two spare working copies on two different SSDs in case of a serious issue. The last outage I ran into a totally unrelated problem after going through the usual process (objectrecovery) and after wasting enough time trying to troubleshoot the issue I opted to simply use a clone drive. This fixed both problems.

That's when it occurred to me. The guide outages may be unavoidable because that is out of our control. That is a Rovi or Microsoft issue. However, its a direct result of these outages that we see problems on our individual systems. Once the outage is over some systems recover gracefully and others don't. However, if a system didn't contact the servers for guide updates during the outage it would have never been effected. So the sidestep would be to prevent your system from contacting the servers during the guide outage period. Since we cannot predict outages (unless someone is seeing a reliable pattern at this point) then the simplest control measure would be to disable auto guide updates and manually update the guide only when it is known that there are no current guide outages.

Now I know people are going to say EPG123. I am still in the process of testing it and haven't gotten it to work yet. I will continue to try but right now it isnt a solution for me,....yet.

Why not? Start a new thread in the EPG forum and lets try to resolve your issues.

I just don't check or worry about it - the data has always come back. My mind is free and so is my guide data :D But STC is right - if missing a few days of guide data stresses you out you should consider EGP123.

The outage probably has something to do with ROVI trying to shove its guide data onto TiVo systems

It is starting again. The EPG did not update today (Tuesday Aug 23, 2016) and has listing through the afternoon of Saturday Sept 3, 2016 (same as yesterday).
Since it is only one day so far I will wait another day or two before starting a ticket for this outage.

Just a quick heads up, it is starting again, the EPG did not update today Aug 23, 2016 and is updated through Sat Sep 3, 2016 late afternoon. I will give it a couple more days
to see if starts to update again before opening a new ticket.

The last time started the same way and even though a ticket was opened after 2 days,. it took another week before it was fixed.

First day, an update with no actual new data, second day and after, no update. Just like now.

I'd open a ticket myself but I'm not using it with WMC.

Updates have been happening around 10pm ET here, but Monday's download did not add/change any data and as of 12:10am tonight, there was no new update, so actually two days of no updates (unless it will come later this morning instead of at 10pm, which happens from time to time).

Thanks for starting the ticket although I wish you'd be more careful with date typos... :)

Just got a full guide update, Yeah!!! Since the last long outage, the guide has been more reliable than in a very long time. I hope they keep it up with are outages fixed quickly.

To what date? After I read your note I did 3 manual updates - each took the normal amount of time for a real update, but the actual guide still does not go past 9/3.

My EPG updated to Tue Sep 6, 2016 tonight. So I guess it is fixed again (for now).
