Well this latest outage was the final straw to push me to EPG123.

All is working perfectly. In addition to actually having listings, the EPG is further enhanced with:
- Thumbnail pictures for all shows/movies in the guide.
- Correct series and episode numbering.
- Better First Run identifiers.
- Better Series identifiers.
- HD flags.
The Schedules Direct subscription does cost $25 a year but it is well worth it for reliable, quality data and active support.

Lucky you. I would have done the same had I not still been using XP MCE.IT Troll wrote:Well this latest outage was the final straw to push me to EPG123.

I don't care about Microsoft EPG data for the UK now.
I've now moved to Schedules Direct and EPG123, and it's so much better than Microsoft's EPG data ever was.
And the developer of EPG123 sorted out a glitch with UK data within a couple of hours or so. If only Microsoft bothered to read their Bug Reports.

You really are operating on borrowed time with XP. After last big outage MS said XP was difficult fix.mrbarty wrote:Lucky you. I would have done the same had I not still been using XP MCE.
Is there no way you can upgrade? The Windows 7/8 version is much nicer.

Can you get the Windows 8 version anymore? I thought Microsoft had withdrawn it, however much money you throw at them.IT Troll wrote:The Windows 7/8 version is much nicer.

True. I bought my MC8 key in the forums here. But Media Center is included with Windows 7 and that is still easy to get hold of.

I stayed with XP MCE for quite a while but eventually switched to Win7 MCE and it was a big improvement and well worth the effort. There however is no point switching to Win8 MCE unless you chose to exploit the hack to run it in WIn10. (Win10 supports Apple Lossless as standard properly.)mrbarty wrote:Lucky you. There is no real difference between MC7 and MC8 so you don't lose out by sticking with 7. The only trouble with Win7 is that Microsoft seem to be trying to kill it through Update overload. The same thing happened with XP which turned installation into a bloaty mess.
I tried a test install of Win10 with the Media Center patch and using EPG123 and everything worked fine. However with the Anniversary release of Win10 just around the corner I am holding off for now.

And, crucially, do two things on the bug report:
1. upvote the bug report
2. click on "Repros: I can too" to make it clear that you are experiencing the issue.
The more upvotes and "repros" the bug report gets, the more likely it is that it will be acted upon quickly.
At least, that's the theory!
I tried that link but it does not work "Page Not Found
The content that you requested cannot be found or you do not have permission to view it."
Is there an alternative to this ? I have Vista though by the way just on BDA drivers for a Cinergy 2400i.

There aren't really any alternatives for Vista (or XP). You should still be able to get the 7-day Over-The-Air EPG though (for terrestrial SD channels).

Another migrant to epg123 here - the latest Microsoft 'gap' finally pushed me over - and I wish I had done it earlier! (I did upvote on Connect, though)

Got fed up as well so Next PVR backend with Emby clients for me - Emby Theatre on the HTPC/PC's, Emby Android TV on the Nvidia Shield TV box, and Emby Android/iOS very elegantly on various phones and tablets. I decided to upgrade to Win 10 as well before the end of month deadline but won't be needing the WMC hack now. I have Schedules Direct feeding Next PVR as a free 7 day trial as it allows 14 day EPG but not sure the extra 7 days are worth $25/year with all the catchup apps available.
A superb combo of products which consolidates all our media (film's, video's, music, photos's, recorded TV, live TV, games and catch up services) very elegantly. Bye, bye WMC.

My guide data is back on all satellites (13.0, 19.2, 28.2) this morning.
I didn't do anything as 19.2 and terrestrial were still working - I assume they had been downloaded OTA despite the feature being disabled.

Wow! My old XP MCE guide updated until 8th August this morning! When I'd given up all hope. To whoever was responsible for this, thank you, thank you.

From reports it does seem to be back. But I wonder how many more moved on this time? Which is probably all part of Microsoft's evil decomissioning plan.

No not in the slightest, it is good to free of Microsoft's stranglehold and incomplete data.mrbarty wrote:Nevertheless, part of you must be feeling slightly peeved.
The grass (or should that be button) is definitely greener over here.
