Recorded tv choppy at 3840x2160

Hi, I recently installed WMC on windows 10 and all works fine except recorded TV.
My integrated card has the highest definition of 3840×2160, when I was using windows 7 I had the same resolution but the media center running at 1080p because of recorded TV.
When I try this on 10 media center keeps going black and the mouse does nothing, I then change media center to 3840×2160 and it is ok again.

The problem with this is recorded TV is choppy, I end up watching through VLC which is ok but annoying if the program is still recording as you have to stop and start.
I remember getting a message each time I open media center on W7 saying my display was running at a higher definition but I ignored this.
For some reason W10 won't allow me to run the media center at a different resolution to my screen.

Hope someone can help?

Thanks,
David.

The big question, Do you run WMC at 30 or 60hz ? I have been running WMC in 4K (3840x2160) @ 60hz for a long time now (over a year now). I found that a mid line card was not capable to do this. WMC runs bad at 30hz (slughish and choppy). I tried it at 30hz and got the same results. DO NOT RUN WMC at 30hz. After geting a newer card and enabling 3840x2160 @ 60hz, Media Center is FLAWLESS.

My System has a GTX750 (a $75-100 card) and it runs flawless.

I still run Windows 7 because I have the mods for it to disable the "High res" message and disable the on-screen volume menu.

Running WMC at 30hz WILL cause your problem.

You are correct, I have been running WMC at 30hz, the strange part is that when I was on windows 7 I have the PC running at 3840x2160 and WMC at 1080p.
When I try this in 10 the screen keeps going black and cutting out, do you thinks this could be windows 10 drivers?
All that would happen in 7 is that I would get a message when opening WMC saying the display is running at very high resolution which I would ignore.
I don't get this message on 10, not sure why but I was happy to run at 1080p on WMC but can't now.
Will have to look at my motherboard to see if I have a vacant slot as I have 2 x twin tuners taking 2 slots already.

Thanks for your help,
David.

In my case. When I switch sources on my AVR to WMC, I will get a moment of black screen (maybe 1-5 seconds) this is normally the HDMI sync (HDCP digital sync). With a few things, it's not really easy to fix it accept for a 3rd party splitter and that will lock the HDCP connection (sticking a splitter in the mix).

Yea, I bet it would resolve MOST of your problems getting a replacement card. If your running at 4K (like I am), you might want to skip the GTX750 like have and go towards a GTX950 or 960 (or higher). Those cards come with HDMI 2.0 and the older cards come with HDMI 1.4a. If a 4K Blu-ray option comes for the PC (rumored coming soon), it WILL require HDMI 2.0, it will have issues with 1.4 (I need to upgrade when the time comes).

I run my WMC at 3840x2160 and the desktop at 3840x2160 @60hz. I stuck with Windows 7 on my HTPC for this, As that "the display is running at very high resolution" I was able to disable with some HEX editing of WMC files (thank god for the WMC 10 hackers). And I would get the volume (50 in the corner) pop up when ever I would stop or play a video, that was also hex edited out. NOW WMC 7 runs like a dream, so no need for 10 on my HTPC.

Start by updating video drivers, 100% uninstall the old one and MANUALLY install the new driver. If no luck, Drop your desktop down to 1080p and run WMC at 1080p, let the TV do the scaling, if you have any 4K content, it wont be true 4k but, it will play back, this might resolve this issue.

Get a replacement card and then jump them both up to 3840x2160 @60hz and you should be good.

Personally, I have not attempted to run WMC 10 at 4K on my HTPC, I was going to remove my 8.1 partition and install a 7 Home premium license I have to take the 10 upgrade on so the system is ready in case.
