Auto Rip & Compress for Media Center

#1

Post by DavidinCT » Tue Aug 18, 2015 7:30 pm

I was looking for apps that we don't have in the Wiki here and this is one of those apps that I always wanted to try but, never have. If still works, I bet a lot of people who keep a movie library in their WMC machine would like this tool or shall I say, set of tools..

I did find a download for it, did I miss it someplace ?

http://babgvant.com/forums/t/3381.aspx

Auto Rip n Compress is a Windows 7 Media Center addon to easily rip a DVD or Blu-ray with DVDFab HD Decrypter, AnyDVD, or MakeMKV and convert or compress it (if wanted) using Handbrake and other tools automatically.

Anyone still using this ? Does it still work ? Does it still rip HD-DVD and Blu-ray movies right to the library ?

I have a handful of HD-DVDs that I wanted to rip and do a little compression to so they take under 20gb for each (don't want 40+gb moves), so if this works, it might be a nice option....

And if you want details on it, 61+ pages on the OLD TGB from way back.... I want to see if this will work with HD-DVDs, I would like to archive these movies

So, I tryed this out and tried a few backups with all options this supports. IT DOES STILL WORK and works well.... a One click rip to movie library in WMC...

Tried 4-5 different Blu-ray discs and 3 different HD-DVDs (wanted to rip some old movies I had)

WIth MAKEMKV installed, I would just drop a Blu-ray in (after a few options to set it up) and open Rip n Compress, and select to start. I have the movie drop directly in my Movie library, it rips the full main movie with all audio tracks with No compression. YAMM picks it up and meta data/art shows up. Takes about 1/2 to an hour to rip a blu-ray (I have a older blu-ray drive, so it's slower so it might be faster for you). Drop and Rip, very easy !!!

It does run in the background, Kick off a rip, go do something else(watch tv etc), You'll get a quick notifcation pop up in WMC when it's completed.

Now, the problems start with Compression, With handbrake/MakeMKV installed, it has some built in settings to rip a movie, Compressing a blu-ray DOES work but, I end up with 5.1 or 2.0 audio, No DTS-HD, or TrueHD sound tracks and nothing but problems trying that (after about 10 attempts with different movies). So it looks like compressing movies are a fail for me (I WANT THE FULL UNTOUCHED AUDIO TRACK). If getting True/HD audio is not a big deal to you, It does take 3-4 hours to compress but, it does work, took a 28gb movie and dropped it down to 8gb, with A and B video (28gb and 8gb), it was hardly noticeable on my 65" 4K TV.

You can also set it to rip in different formats but, I only used MKV myself, as it's my prefered format for movies/videos

It still works, still does what it says and it's really simple to use...

I really am shocked that people getting into WMC now do not use this application if they are ripping movies to the movie library.

I also found version 2.20 in my archive.
Here's a link to some info and the installer for 2.20 in my OneDrive.

I have 2.21 someplace. I don't think it was every released. As I was chatting with the dev for a while and he said this is the last one he made public.

He did make one with YAMM in it that he made for custom installers but, he wont release it to the public. I tried :(

Can you upload that to the third party repository, or share it when you get a chance?
