What IR receiver do you use?

#1

Post by soccer4270 » Sun Mar 20, 2016 6:58 pm

Curious what type of IR receiver is generally used? I am currently using my happauge HR-2250 with the IR cable plugged in to control WMC. I was using the 360 as an extender and was able to have the xbox one control that but no luck with my current setup. Has anyone had any luck with this? It was convenient to tell it to pause or change channel.

I just use a 15 dollar cheapo Rosewill. Included a USB IR and a remote with a green button.

I use this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6880101007
It is currently on sale for $9.99 at newegg (and made by them (Rosewill is their house brand), so they are the only ones that sell it). You'll have to pay shipping if you aren't a Premier member.

EDIT: Just added to my cart and entered savings code, looks like it has free shipping without Premier!

My model # is RHRC-1100 (Z or 2)

Yes, that model is here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6880101008

It is currently not on sale so is $19.99.

The RHRC-11001 has both an IR receiver and also an IR blaster (RHRC-11002 model doesn't have the blaster) which can supposedly control a cable box to change the channels with WMC (but I have the HDHR Prime, so have no need for that and haven't tried it).

Note that the remote does NOT have a learning function, the learning function is in regards to the IR blaster being able to control cable boxes by learning from your cable box remote.

The sale on the RHRC-11001 ends 3/23, so if you want it, it is a good time to get it.

Anyone ever try using the Xbox one to change channels with it?

For 10 or 15 bucks you cant really complain, (plug in the USB and it works), but if you are on a tight budget, and don't want to buy a remote twice, my only complaint is NO backlight feature.

Here comes the backlight suggestions.......

There are a few around here that have built the whole HTPC for 50 bucks. yeah, I am exaggerating to make a point.

I just checked and the price now for either unit is 19.99. That's weird it went up in that short period of time.

You have to enter the promo code for $10 off, the code is EMCEHGH64 (to be entered on the shopping cart page).

I have been using the receivers off the Rosewill RHRC-11001 kit for years - definitely good stuff. Don't use the remotes, though... wonder where they all are.

RHRC-11001 came in and I have gotten some functionality back that I had when using the 360 as an extender. Mostly holding down the skip button allowing you to choose where to resume playback. Still no luck on have the Xbox one control changing channels yet.
