Please post the trace.log contents for the failed update so I can look at it.

What concerns me is the right side of the client GUI should show all lineups that are stored in the WMC database. If you are not seeing any lineups, then there may be a problem with your database.

EDIT: nevermind, you sent me some emails with the log file. I'm looking over everything now.

Gary,
Take your time. I'm out and about with the wife. Tour de France and Wimbledon are recording with the limited Rovi setup today and I can't afford to Fubar it again until after the Wimbledon men's final tomorrow anyway.
Regards,
Steve

Totally understand. You'll just have to embrace the suck (Rovi) for a little while. We'll get you straightened out afterwards.

Hello All,

I too have the Cablevision problem (zip 07087), channel 700s gone as of 2 days ago.
I am trying to understand what is going on....
As I have never had a problem before, I never had the need to know how WMC 'sets up' it channels.
So it is the database that WMC accesses that determines channels? One of the last epg123 updates wiped out the channels?
The database is provided by cablevision i presume...and the latest cablevision data did not include the 700s..
After tinkering around i could manually 'activate' the channels using the client guide tool and 'checking the 700 channels' even though they had no 'call sign' or 'service name'
i can now view the channels, but with no guide data.... is there a way to populate the data by using the standard def channel
as a pointer? ie mapping channel 2 to channel 702 (HD version of 2)?

thanks for the great product otherwise

I just checked all 3 of your Cablevision lineups for zip 07087 and none of them have the 700 channels (the -F lineup has a single 784 Hallmark Channel HD and nothing else). It sounds like Cablevision is directing Gracenote to add/modify the lineups and we're not to the finish line yet. You need to submit a ticket to SD that the 700s are missing.

When the 700s do get populated, you'll probably have to change your lineup to USA-NJ29438-F (you could do that now, but I'm not certain the -F lineup will be the correct one). To make the transition, do the following:

1) Open the EPG123 Configuration GUI and click the [Lineups] button.
2) In the 'Subscribed Lineups' window, click the box beside your current Cablevision lineup and then click the [Remove Selected] button.
3) Click the [Add New] button.
4) Enter your zipcode in the 'Postal Code' text field and click the [Fetch] button.
5) Double-click the 'Cablevision of Hudson County - Device D (North Bergen)' lineup to add it.
6) Click the [Apply & Exit] button.
7) Select the lineup tab that shows the new lineup and click the header of the 'Channel' column to sort by channel number.
8) Scroll down to the 700s and select the HD channels you want to add back in.
9) Click [Save & Execute] and wait for the build to complete.

I assume you are setup to automatically import the mxf file. If not, perform a manual import per the guide.

10) Open the EPG123 Client GUI.
11) Select the old 'Cablevision of Hudson County - Digital (North Bergen)' lineup in the pulldown on the right side.
12) Click the 'X' button to the right of that pulldown to empty/delete the old lineup from the database.
13) Select the new 'Cablevision of Hudson County - Digital D (North Bergen)' lineup in the pulldown on the right side.
14) Click the Match by: [# Number] button on the left side to match the new lineup channels to the guide channels.

Everything will then be clean and ready for the new lineup. The above seems like a lot to do, but can be done in a minimal amount of time.

In the mean time, yes. You can map channel 2 to channel 702 like you describe and get listings for those channels. Be aware that any scheduled recordings you have set to HD only or channel 702 only may not work... just need to check it or change the request to any channel.

It appears that Spike TV (channel 741 CableVision Brookhaven, NY) had now become Paramount TV. When I go to Schedules Direct I see the following:
741 2018-07-06 59186 PARHD Paramount Network HD (so it appears SD has updated their data)
When I go to my guide I still see Spike with the Spike logo. Is the something I need to do on my end?

Delete the Spike logo in the [epg123]\logos folder and run an update to force a new logo download. If SD/Gracenote has updated the logo, then you should get the new paramount logo in your guide.

I do see the following now for PARHD.png but the logo still shows spike so I guess SD hasn't updated?

That's right. My bad. If you delete the PARHD.png and do an update, you will force a fresh download of the PARHD.png. If it is still Spike, you can click the button on the configuration GUI to download all logos from SD and they will be saved in the [epg123]\sdlogos folder. Find all the PARHD-x.png images and there may be a Paramount TV logo in there. Sometimes when stations rebrand themselves, SD/Gracenote will have both the old and the new and it is possible EPG123 is grabbing the old.

If none of the logos are Paramount TV, submit a ticket with SD to let them know it needs updated. This happened a couple years ago with ABC Family.

Ok so I did what you said, deleted all PAR*.png from the sdlogos directory now when it updates I get 4 logos. PAR-1.png (shows Paramount) PAR-2, PARHD-1, and PARHD-2 all show Spike...not a biggie but I AM confused, or maybe SD is! The logos directory still had the old, Spike logo, even though I had deleted it previously.

Take your PAR-1.png, rename it to PARHD.png, and copy it into the [epg123]\logos folder. Run another update and you will have the Paramount logo in the guide, though it won't be the HD version if there is a difference.

If there are 2 logos available from SD for a station, EPG123 selects the second one. It tends to be the logo that provides a better contrast in WMC (light against dark). Since PARHD logos are still showing Spike, then the Spike logo is what gets saved in the \logos folder.

My EPG123 appears to be working; however, the icon in the bottom right of the screen does not update. It has a hello "!" and says 8/3/2018. I have successfully updated the guide in the last week.

If you close WMC and open again, does it stay the same?

There is a registry setting, \\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Start Menu\OEMLogoUri, that points to the PNG image. That image gets updated at the end of every import. Check the trace.log file to see if there are any issues with your import... the final line should read something like the below:

Code: Select all

[8/10/2018 4:23:24 AM] [ INFO] Completed EPG123 client execution.
[8/10/2018 4:23:24 AM] [ INFO] EPG123 client execution time was 00:00:36.0823374.

My best guess is that somewhere in one of the program listings, there is a bad character. I would be perfectly fine with removing the station with a bad listing from my line up if I could figure out which one it is.

EDIT:
I ran this script on the files in the cache to remove non ansi characters, and was able to run 21 days. - I should have saved a backup so I could tell which file had a bad character

Code: Select all

 Get-ChildItem "d:\epg123\cache" -filter * |
>> ForEach-Object {
>> $content = Get-Content -raw $_.FullName
>> Write-Output $_.FullName
>> $content -replace "[^ -x7e]","" >$_.FileName
>> }

You're probably right about the bad character, but I wouldn't jump to removing stations. Open the EPG123 Configuration GUI and click the [Clear Cache] button. This deletes all the cached files and will download them again... more than likely without any bad character.

I did clear cache a few times - I created a quick powershell script to remove non ASCII characters from the cache files, and that seems to have done the trick

Code: Select all

 Get-ChildItem "d:\epg123\cache" -filter * |

What is your lineup? I'll find the bad file and figure out what is wrong and see what EPG123 can do to prevent this from happening.

The log he posted indicates USA-NJ67162-X.
