Hi Gary,
Thanks for keeping WMC usable. I installed EPG123 on New Years day and the following day. I saw that many people were having trouble and asking for your help so I didn't want to bother you. Your interaction with Michael3442 and comment #1716 helped a lot in trying to understand how the program works. I'm sending a donation which may or may not be identifiable as to where it came from so I thought I'd write you a comment.

Hi Gary,
I have subscribed to schedules direct and installed EPG123 following the instructions. I am on Windows 7 and I have my WMC on my main desktop, which also has the tuner cards. I thought everything was working as I could see the new guide with the logos and all. However, I just realized that the channel guide is not updating and the last date that I have listings for is Jan 31st. I went and checked the log file and I think there is some issue with the scheduled task. This is what I see in the log file.

Successfully queried the Task Scheduler for status. Could not start. Last Run 1/26/2020 11:59:59 PM; Exit: 0xFFFFFFFF.

This seems to be happening every day. What am I doing wrong. I can see that there is a scheduled task in both the EPG123(with Automatically import) Configuration tool and the EPG123 Client Guide Tool (Full mode).I can add additional screen shots or any other info based on what you need to look at.

Thanks,
Pradeep

I get a feeling that the task is not created correctly. When I go to task scheduler, I do not see any folder for epg. Any help would be appreciated. I tried to search other posts that had this kind of error, but they seemed to be other issues like client server setup etc.

I was looking at the log file again and may be I am not reading this right. It looks like it is downloading the programming information for up to 14 days. I am attaching the entire log for yesterday. However, when I go to Guide on my Media center and scroll right, the last listing that I see ends on Feb 1st. I do not see anything beyond that. It does not make sense.

Here is the log file:

Your recordings are blocking the import. If you upgrade to the latest version, the timeout period is changed from 5 hours to 23 hours so you might be more successful.

If you are always recording, then you can change the task to run epg123Client.exe with the -f parameter to force an import regardless of recording status. There have been reports that an import during a recording may cause the recording to abort, so you decide if you want to take the chance or not.

Thank you. Looks like that was it. I have been able to get a few more days of guide listing for now. I was finally able to find the task in the task scheduler library. When I look at the parameter, this is what I see now.

-i "C:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123\output\epg123.mxf" -match

Should I change this to

-f "C:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123\output\epg123.mxf" -match

to force import.

Also, Do I need to leave the EPG123 Config and /or EPG123 Client Guide Tool open for these things to work or can I close them and it will just work in the background. Based on what I see in the task, it looks like they don't need to remain open.

And a big Thank you for putting together this tool and guide to help keep my WMC setup going. Where do I go to donate?

If you want to force an import, just add the '-f' switch.

Code: Select all

epg123Client.exe -i "C:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123\output\epg123.mxf" -match -f
You do not keep the GUIs open. EPG123 is basically a set and forget kind of program. If you leave the configuration gui open, then your scheduled task will fail. There can be only 1 of those running at a time.

There are donate links on the download page and the initial install page of the website... Thank you!

Thank you. I have changed the argument. Let us see how it does.

I have also sent the donation.

Thanks again.

Anyone have any additional ideas to disable the EPG warning. I checked a couple of different KB patches (4524752, 4493132, ) and none of them are installed on my Windows 7 machine. But I still keep getting the warning and it is annoying.

Ok, stupid question here, but how do I get to be able to add the -f parameter to see if it will help me? I see the line, but I can't edit it......

I have d/led the newest version and that hasn't helped. I have no guide data, as of 2 days ago. Kind of frustrating. I installed this and did the EPG because WMC stopped its guide data and now I have the same issue and can't figure out how to get it updated.

Forcing an update IN WMC doesn't help.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

I started researching this issue yesterday, as the annoyingly persistent warning reappeared on all three of my HTPCs a couple days ago, having been dormant for a week or more. You know the drill: dismiss it with 'OK' only to have it reappear on the next menu (Guide, Recorded Items, et al.). Then last night, after rebooting a master HTPC (it shares two tuners via 5G WiFi like a champ ;-) ) and then the remote HTPC, both showed the "Don't Tell Me Again" (or whatever) option in the annoying warning. I checked the option (used a mouse; not sure if the remote will select it) and clicked 'OK'. Did the same on my main HTPC (no reboot), which just earlier had been showing the warning. This morning no warning. So, as noted elsewhere, probably a timing thing, and Feb. 1 has arrived.

Good luck with all y'all's HTPCs :-)

I have d/led the newest version and that hasn't helped. I have no guide data, as of 2 days ago. Kind of frustrating. I installed this and did the EPG because WMC stopped its guide data and now I have the same issue and can't figure out how to get it updated.

Forcing an update IN WMC doesn't help.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.
You need to double click the task in Task Scheduler in order to go into edit mode. You can then go to the Actions tab and edit the client action to add the -f switch.

Yes, I got this option to not warn me again. I just had to restart my Media center. Thank you.

Don't see it there....

Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Task Scheduler

I only have Ceton (that's been uninstalled as I moved to SiliconDust a couple of years ago, but it still shows up and I haven't bothered to edit the registry to remove traces), Microsoft, and WPD

I have nothing from EPG123 under Task Scheduler. Nothing but the 3 items above. I've dug done into the Microsoft branch and that is all MSFT stuff...nothing 3rd party.

I forced a guide update from within EPG123 (manual update). It ran, the progress bar hit 100% and closed. I opened WMC. I still have no guide data.
Do I have to remove everything and reinstall and hope for the best?

Why wouldn't I have anything in the task scheduler (if you are referring to the same one I mentioned above...that's the only one I am aware of)

In EPG123 Client, it defaults to "Full Mode" and weird "scheduled update time"....I never set it and it is always different each time I open it and look. I move to Client Mode "No task is scheduled to run"....that's fine.
Automatch is checked....c:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123\output\epg123.mxf

I click on that...it opens up that folder with epg123.mxf in it. That's the only file there. I try to open it and it gives me the dialog of updating the guide....or canceling and using the "Manual Import" button under "Client and Configuration & Actions".
If I run the guide update, it appears successful, the "Date Modified" for the epg123 gets updated to new day/time. Size is currently 78,350kb (and, if I were to open it with wordpad, it is full, from what I can see, so not like it is a blank file with no data).

Go into WMC. NO GUIDE DATA.

The system is vanilla WMC Win7 w/updates. Used for nothing else except WMC.

You need to create the task in order to be able to edit it (if you need to). Set the task to 'Full Mode', enter a random time when it is highly unlikely you will be watching and/or recording something, and click the [Create] button.

Are your EPG123 lineups listed on the right side pulldown? If so, select each 'EPG123' lineup and click the Match by: [# Number] button.

Ok, thank you.
It was created before, but I had deleted it to see if that was the problem.
I recreated it and found it in task scheduler. Added the -f (it already had a -update as an optional add on).
Set it for 04:58am, when, if I am recording or even playing around on TV at that time, I should shoot myself. My WMC runs 24/7 though, so it will actually be on.

Yes, my EPG123 lineup (I had 2 but went down to the only 1 that actually is my area and used) is on the right side pulldown. And, the match by #Number isthere as well and everything looked good.

It does show, on the bottom, 827 merged channel(s) with 827 shown | 11883 service(s) with 538 shown. I had, previously when the guide was working a week or two ago, edited out some of the channels I don't care about (PPV/HSN/etc).

I'm just curious/concerned that doing the Manual Import still resulted in nothing happening (at least, visibly to me with the EPG).
And, I do have ONE station that shows the guide data.... 104 (NBC)....after that, and before that, everything else is "No Data Available"

(spent 10 minutes testing/checking/composing the above.......now, I have 2 stations I watched for a few minutes and see guide data on them, but 99% still say "No Data Available".....

Did you click the Match by: [# Number] button?

Sorry, I'm a bit lost on this. What is your status now? Do you have the guide working, or somewhat working?

As of this morning. I have about a handful of stations, out of 800+, that have guide data.
I'm honestly lost on this. It all was working just a week ago.
