The install location has nothing to do with the error you saw above. That error was generated from the WMC database when the automatch process was trying to update an item... all local.

If you noticed, the mxf file import location is now http://dell980:9080/output/epg123.mxf rather than a network shared folder location (\\dell980\<path_to_epg123>\epg123.mxf). This avoids the need to set up a network share, set permissions, or change the user of the scheduled task. See, updating software actually has benefits.

Finally had to update from 1.1.(very old) to the latest to get my guide looking all healthy again.

A bit of an pointer for folk who don't run win 7 updates....
Before you install you will need Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3033929) (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=46148)
if you don't the epg123 install will try to install .net 4.6.2 but it will fail, with no error message
if you install the offline version of .net 4.6.2 (withour the update) you will get an error... on the lines of an invalid certificate or the timestamp signature and/or certificate could not be verified or is malformed.

Hope that helps anyone
(if this has already been mentioned sorry for the duplicate post)
Thank you for this very useful post!

Question for anyone who might know the answer: does installing KB3033929 either (1) mess with the ability to play copy-protected recordings, or (2) require running WMC Setup again afterward?

Actually, one more question: KB4474419 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/to ... 9aa5f8339) seems to be aimed at providing much the same SHA-2 code-signing support as KB303329. For WMC/SD/EPG123 purposes, is there a preference for which of these two to install?

Thanks again.

The KB's do not interfere with copy protection or requre WMC to be re-setup

Thank you, that's a relief. So I can go ahead and bring EPG123 up to date with confidence.

I stopped updating Win7 on this machine in 2014 after one too many white-knuckle experiences installing Windows patches.

How about KB303329 vs. KB4474419, should I install the first one or the second one (which was released later), or does it make a difference for our purposes?

OK, I installed KB303329 followed (after a reboot) by the newest version of EPG123 (1.7.3.0), which involved also installing .NET Framework 4.6.2 and a further reboot. Then I manually updated the program guide to get rid of all those generic "Movie" listings that had started cropping up in the grid.

So far, so good. Except that now, for some reason, the grid stops hard at 4:30 AM (Eastern) on January 1, giving less than ten days' worth of schedule information. Typically, when the listings end, you can keep scrolling to the right to see the "no information" listings, but now it's just stopping there and going no further.

So, two issues: listings ending at 4:30 AM on 1/1 and no possibility of scrolling past that date and time.

Any ideas/suggestions?

If you to the About Guide in WMC, what date does it show?

It says, "Guide End Date 1/9/2023," at 2 AM.

Let me know if you need more info, thanks!

Just checked it again, and now the grid goes out to 1/8/23 at 7 PM instead of 1/1/23.

Does it simply take a (fairly long) while for the show database to load into WMC?

This is a known WMC "bug". When you get that "hard stop" in the guide, it is just a visual thing, the actual guide goes past that (as you would be able to see in the "view scheduled" "todo" list, which will show programs being scheduled beyond the date shown in the guide, assuming you have any scheduled), you just can't scroll over to see the rest of the guide. You can usually "fix" it by exiting the WMC GUI and restarting it. You used to also be able to fix it by triggering a new guide update (which would actually do nothing if you just recently updated), but that was with the old native guide updater, not EPG123. I'm guessing that performing another EPG123 update might also "fix" this (although I would advise against it due to it being overkill).

Thanks for the informative post, much appreciated!

As you suggest, I think I'll just leave it alone now. :)

Big thanks to you mawse1!

I hit the "certificate error" and tried a bunch of things to resolve based on web searches. Then I found your post. You saved me!!!!
