No, I'm not using a VPN and I now have the problem on two different machines. Any other thoughts on things to try? Any more detailed logging available?

Thanks,
Ken

Nothing more to do with software I think. I would suggest opening a ticket with Schedules Direct. Provide them the errors you see in the log and your external IP address. They can check their token server logs for your IP and the timestamps to see if there is anything there to help out.

You have any AV/firewall software running? My code signing certificate expired a few weeks ago, so if your firewall is really aggressive it might stop it.

Doing a little research, got a couple questions.

Do your systems have all security updates? There may be a KB out there that corrects this.
Do any of your systems have .NET Framework 4.7 or above (latest is 4.8)? With 4.7, the OS then should natively support TLS 1.2.

I don't have any AV/firewall other than Windows 7 native. The .NET version on the first system is 4.8.03761. On the second system 4.6.xxx. I'm not sure if all security updates are installed, probably not.

I will try opening a ticket with SD.

BTW, I tried running "epg123.exe -update" on a Win 10 machine. Don't know if this is expected to work, but it failed in apparently the same way.

Not surprised Win10 failed as well. This appears to a problem with your network and/or SD specifically for you.

I said earlier that TLS 1.2 appears to be working since you are successfully querying GitHub for version info to see if there are updates. I just confirmed that by disabling 1.2 on my system and opening the configuration GUI. The response is below when your system is not using 1.2.

Code: Select all

[10/14/2022 9:06:20 PM] [ INFO] GetClientVersion() Unknown exception thrown. Message: The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel.
The error is obviously different than what you are seeing which implies you are making a connection but the 2 systems aren't agreeing to complete the connection.

With regard to opening a ticket with SD, there appear to be 2 places to open a ticket, as a developer and with regard to errors in their schedule data. Which place do you think is most appropriate here?

Thanks,
Ken

Sorry, it took me a little while to figure out what you were talking about. Login to your account with Schedules Direct at https://schedulesdirect.org and click the Lineup Support button on the left. Select the 'Other' bubble and then explain what is going on in the text field. You can copy a sample of the errors from the EPG123 log file with timestamps and include your external IP address to help them locate you in their log files.

I have 1.7.1.12 and see one or both of the errors in my logs:
[10/14/2022 11:50:05 AM] [ERROR] The expected number of stations to download is 337 but there are only 343 stations available from Schedules Direct. Aborting update for review by user.
[10/14/2022 11:50:05 AM] [ERROR] Failed to create MXF file. Exiting.

did update from 1.3.something a week or two ago

Open the configuration GUI and click [Save & Execute].

The message is a little confusing and will be fixed in next release, but basically the last time you saved your lineup using the configuration GUI you had selected 337 stations to download. Of the original 337 stations, at least 17 have been removed from the lineup, but at the same time you have had at least 23 new stations added. The 17 missing stations trip a threshold in EPG123 to abort an update in case there is a bigger issue that could clear out most of your guide.

Try again. The loadmxf.exe errored out while import the guide listings into the WMC database. Considering it took 12 minutes before throwing the error I take it your mxf file is pretty large. It happens sometimes but I've found a second try usually works.

Hi Gary,

Thanks again for your help. You were correct that the problem was with my network, specifically my router. Rebooting the router seems to have fixed the problem. Perhaps the DNS cache was pointing to the wrong SD server?

SD was not helpful in response to my request. They said it is a "Windows error" and have not yet provided any server log info.

Thanks for letting us know. SD was still working on it. They contacted me in reference to your ticket to try and see if there was a way to get more information from the error... try and see what was going on. Not sure what the router would be doing messing up the connection to SD, but as long as it works now I'm okay with not knowing.

Daily updating all "green" since I installed the latest version. Thanks, Gary. Only thing I am seeing (and it is not a real big deal) is that in Recorded TV, I have no picture icons (preview icons if you will), only blue blank space (just on new recordings since a couple of weeks or so, older recordings have them). In the past, this was corrected simply by re-booting the PC (Win 7 HTPC), but does not solve now.

This is often caused by an existing recording that is corrupted.

WMC will scan all recordings and create a thumbnail based on the video content. If it comes upon a video that is corrupted in some way, it may cause the thumbnail process to fail. When this happens it does not skip that video and go on to the next, it just stops (or it constantly tries to make a thumbnail for the corrupt recording and constantly fails).

Note that the corrupt recording may or may not show any signs of being corrupt, it may play back fine with no obvious issues, but something about the recording trips up the thumbnail process and it results in no more thumbnails for new recordings.

You can test this by moving a recording, one at a time, from the Recorded TV folder to another folder and see if WMC is able to create the thumbnails for the remaining recordings (you may have to exit and restart WMC each time to get it to initiate the thumbnail generation process, I'm not sure about this). Start with the oldest recording that does not have a thumbnail, move it to a different folder, restart WMC and see if thumbnails are created for the other recordings, if not, move the next oldest recording without a thumbnail, and so on.

Once you find the one that was causing the holdup, you can put all the other recordings back and see if they get thumbnails. If so, then you found the one recording that was causing the issue.

Of course, now you need to decide what to do with that recording. You can either watch it and delete it (or not watch it), or you can put it back in the Recorded TV folder and just live without thumbnails until you do delete it at some point in the future.

Thanks for taking your time, Space. Hard to believe but when I went to view last night (did not restart the PC) the icons were all back, save maybe 2-3 older ones. Like just posting on Green Button just fixed the issue. Damndest thing I have seen in awhile. Still, much appreciate your weighing in.

Getting the same error as mentioned previously ...

[10/26/2022 9:20:30 AM] [ERROR] Of the expected 9 stations to download, there are only 9 stations available from Schedules Direct. Aborting update for review by user.
[10/26/2022 9:20:30 AM] [ERROR] Failed to create MXF file. Exiting.

I did the "save and execute" suggestion, but get the same error message afterwards. I am on the latest version.
