Filename for recorded files

#1

Post by rhendrix9 » Thu Jun 04, 2020 8:03 pm

When I first Setup EPG123 at the first of the year I changed the filenames to save the season and episode. I am trying to setup another WMC computer but for the life of me I cannot remember how I got the Season and Episode numer to show up. is there a setting in WMC that sets it? I cannot seem to effect a change in the tweak WMC section so I don't know what I'm doing wrong

The original machine seems to be fine, it's the new one i can't set.

any ideas where to look?

So the above is how you would set all future recording filenames. It is not retroactive.

Note that %Et (Episode Title) is the one you want to get the season and episode numbers and the episode title, but you also need to enable the "Prefix episode title with season and episode numbers" option in the EPG123 configuration GUI, otherwise it will only include the episode title and not the season and episode numbers.

I completely missed that as a possible meaning to the OP. Thank you, Space.

You're welcome. Also if you enable the "Prefix episode title with season and episode numbers" it will only take affect from then on (after a save & execute), and I believe it will not, in general, affect exiting guide data (although I'm not completely sure of this).

I believe if you already have guide data that has episode titles without the season/episode numbers, only newly added listings will have the season and episode in the title from that moment on. You would have to clear out the guide and reload it completely to get all episodes to include the season/episode immediately. The alternative is to just wait until the old guide data is no longer in the guide (up to 17 days) but any episodes recorded until then will only have the episode title and not the season/episode number.

No, it will replace the existing title in the guide with the new title including the s/e numbers. As long as the program ID stays the same, you can change the title, subtitle, and description all you want.

thanks
I seem to be lost somehow.
My original mce is windows 7
my recordings show the season and episode
epg-win7.jpg
My "new" setup is windows 8.1
epg-win8_1.jpg
Season and episode do not show up
actually the filename pattern on each machine appears to produce the opposite effect
the win 7 machine show the filename pattern of the win 8.1 machine and vice versa
don't know how i did that! I'd like to fix them to be the same but i don't want to screw them up

Any ideas?

I can't recreate what you are seeing. Everything here is working fine when I change to filename pattern. For the Win7 machine, try running the client as administrator... the filename pattern is stored in the registry and if for some reason your user account can't read from the registry, it will show the default.

Registry setting is (if you want to manually change it):
\\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording
"filenaming"

When you change the pattern, do you close and reopen WMC? It probably only reads from the registry when it opens and doesn't reference it any other time. Do you have any extenders that may be connected?

The 8.1 pc shows the correct values in the registry (it's the one i want to show the episode value)

I don't have any extenders and I've been rebooting.

Just to make sure, with the registry settings correct, you have started a new recording and the filename still doesn't show the episode title?

Got it;
"Prefix episode title with season and episode numbers" option in the EPG123 configuration GUI"
I missed this, i guess you don;t need filename pattern to get episode:season, that's why the win 7 box works.
thanks

So I was going of the assumption that you were talking about the filename of the recording, not the episode title of the program.

So Space was spot on with his post above (viewtopic.php?p=140512#p140512) to cover both the recording filename and the episode title with s/e numbers.

I just could not remember how I'd done it originally. Setting the filename pattern caught my eye so that's what i thought was going to be the answer.
sorry to point you in the wrong direction.
