No guide listings after SD renewal

EPG123 was working fine, but after renewing my Schedules Direct account, I cannot get any EPG data. SD says all is fine on their end, and my account on their page shows it has been renewed. EPG123.exe shows my account expiration date out into the future as well, but WMC shows guide end date as 3/30 still (see attached).

Any ideas?

The guide end date has nothing to do with when your membership expires with Schedules Direct. Your guide end date is 3/30 because you have not imported an updated guide since at least 3/17. I would expect the status logo on your WMC home screen to be red with an 'X', or another color with a date stamp of 3/17 or before.

Let's figure out why you are not updating. Check the trace.log file by click the [View Log] button in EPG123 and look for entries with [ERROR] in them.

If you open the configuration GUI and click the [Save & Execute] button, does it complete an update?

From what I see, it looks like when it runs you scheduled update, it does not have access to the internet.

I received the same error on 3/27 (at around 7:45 PM ET), but when I tried it again later it was fine. I have stuff that is constantly accessing the Internet and there was no logging that indicated there was a general Internet access issue at that time.

This error means that EPG123 was unable to do a successful DNS lookup of the domain json.schedulesdirect.org. This could be caused by a general Internet access issue, or it could be a problem with the DNS server.

I'm not sure if the error would be the same for these two events:
could not access the DNS server
DNS server could not resolve the domain name

Also, many home routers act as a proxy for the Internet DNS server, so not sure if the error would be different if using a proxy like this vs. trying to directly access the DNS server on the Internet.

Note that just because there was no general Internet outage at this time, it is always possible that there was a routing issue to the DNS server, or that the DNS server itself was experiencing issues of some sort.

Right, but the problem is it looks possible that the task has not successful resolved json.schedulesdirect.org since at least 3/17. I suspect that the user of the task does not have network access.

Yes, I wanted to add that information in case others come across this thread when looking up that error message, but you are correct, it does look like an Internet access issue for the OP due to it happening two days in a row in the log and the fact that the guide ends 3/30 and they are set to download 14 days of data (so most likely has been happening since 3/17).

No, it is the program called "EPG123" which is separate from the one called "EPG123 Client". You should have icons for each on the desktop (if that option was checked during install), otherwise it is in the Windows menu.

This one downloads the guide data from Schedules Direct and creates the MXF file.

The client takes that MXF file and loads it in to WMC.

The [Save & Execute] manual method of updating works, but it is manual. It doesn't address why when it runs as a scheduled task it does not have access to the network/internet.

Makes sense... the wireless may not be up yet. I would recommend you edit the task in Task Scheduler and set it so that the network needs to be up before the task starts.
