TMDb searches

#1

Post by sanjosanjo » Sat Mar 28, 2020 6:51 pm

Hello. I notice in the trace.log file that there are a lot of searches for shows that I don't recognize, like this:
[3/24/2020 12:03:27 AM] [ INFO] TMDb catalog search for "How to Be a Player" from 1997 found 1 results.

I've never set up anything with TMDb, so I don't know how these got in there. They take up a significant portion of my log file and I'd like to avoid having them in there. Any suggestions how to get rid of these searches that happen every day?

You are currently configured to use TMDb for any missing movie art from Schedules Direct. That is the option "Use themoviedb.org for missing movie cover art" in the configuration GUI.

If you don't want to use TMDb, that is one thing, but don't let the tracing in the log file be a factor in your decision. There is no harm and there will only be a few queries for each daily update. EPG123 will cache the artwork results from TMDb so that it will only try once for a movie and won't check again. If you clear the cache, then it will try again for every movie that does not have poster art from SD which will take a while, but the daily updates are significantly less. Non-english channel movies tend to increase the number of queries but that doesn't appear to be an issue for you.

Okay, I'll just leave things alone. I cleared the cache yesterday because I wasn't getting guide updates, so maybe that's why it's so verbose for the last couple days.

Yah, I noticed it looked like you had an ill-formed or corrupted program cache file which caused your updates to fail. Clearing the cache was the correct move to fix that.

Please change the time that your automatic updates run. Using the value of midnight (0:00) causes stress on the Schedules Direct servers due to it being the default in the early days of EPG123 and so many people not changing it.

If many people connect to SD at the same time, it slows things down and causes resource issues for SD.

You can change it directly in the Task Manager in Windows (if you know how to do that), or you can do it from the EPG123 server or client tool.

In the EPG123 client tool, for instance, you can press the "Delete" button, change the time to something other than "00:00" such as "3:45", then pressing the "Create" button. It is best to set it to a time that does not end in ":00" for a similar reason as not using "00:00", more people will use an on-the-hour time, meaning more contention on the server. It is in your own best interest (faster updates) as well as SD's interest (less contention for resources) to use a non-00 minute (preferably > 15).
