New version up to address crashing WMC when viewing a single channel guide and crossing a program that did not have an image.

Reminder to everyone: if I don't know the bug is there, I can't fix it. :)

I didn't even know I had the bug until this morning. 😚 And even then didn't associate it with EPG. I just thought it was a weird, one-off experience. I'll download and install the update now.

Thanks!

I almost never use that view and so have never experienced this. Good catch though!

Not my catch... 2 users brought it to my attention. It's been around since at least 28/12 but I wasn't able to duplicate until the day of release.

Gary, sorry to report - the bug is back as of this morning, but weirdly, I can't replicate it for any channel but one: TCM. Worked fine for the last few days. Hope this can be fixed; I'd hate for it to happen while taping something.

Crashing WMC doesn't normally affect any recordings in progress as that is performed by a separate process.

There is red text on the download page on how to clear it out

1. Perform a [Save & Execute] using v1.3.5
2. Perform a [Rebuild WMC Database] from the client.

There is an empty url for guide images in the database that needs to be cleared out.

I remember seeing Save and Execute, so no problem there. But will the Rebuild Database mean I'll need to select my channels in the lineup again?

No. There will be a prompt to import the guide listings file, and that will be it.

I absolutely hate updates. The last time took me 8 hours as I couldn't find a simple guide to tell me how.
and now I screwed it all up again. do I just delete everything and start over just to get the latest? Sorry, but I just don't get it.

Here is the note from the download page.
UPGRADE NOTE

If performing an upgrade from a previous version of EPG123, it is only necessary to run the new setup file or copy over the old files with the contents of the portable zip file. No further action is required.
If you only had a 9600 baud modem dialup connection, an update would only take 26 minutes. There is nothing to do for an upgrade other than run the executable. Of course, as you noted, if your AV suite decided to not trust EPG123 then that will stretch that time out. There is no virus/trojan/malware threat. Here is the VirusTotal results for the setup package.

I am currently on 1.2.13. Everything seems to work okay except the search by actor no longer displays the actor's entire movie history, only the movies currently schedule to show.
Would an upgrade help this? Also is there a process for doing just an upgrade or do I have to do a clean install from scratch?

No, it won't help with that. I just verified and it looks like MS finally turned that feature off. Before, we would get the Similar Movies, Reviews, Extended Cast & Crew, and this ability to find all movies an actor had played a part in to not only list them but to also set a recording in the future. That information was provided by AMG (All Movie Guide), which somewhere along the line just became AllMovies owned by none other than Rovi.

They had already shut down the CD/DVD metadata, now with the guide ending it looks like they shut this down as well. Unfortunately, makes too much sense.

EDIT: fixed grammer/spelling

That to me was the number 1 best thing about WMC was to see an actors/actress body of work, mark some for future recording then see it pop up under recordings in the future. Without that, you have to check the movie listings every 2 weeks which of course are not sorted by performer.

Hi, I am having trouble getting EPG123 1.3.5 set up on my Windows 7 HTPC. I downloaded the latest EPG123 file and installed. When it comes to launching the EPG123 Client, it opens briefly before automatically closing/crashing. I saw in another post that someone else was having a similar issue. It was mentioned that it could be an issue with the .NET framework. I had .NET 4.8 installed. I did a repair of it and I had the same issues. I uninstalled 4.8 and EPG123. I reinstalled EPG123 and had it install .NET 4.0 for me. After the install, I am still having issues with EPG123 Client crashing on start up. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

There must be another area in my code needing the try/catch. The client is not liking a channel in your WMC database. Could you post the contents of your trace.log file (C:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123\trace.log) and see if it identifies which channel. If we are lucky, we can just delete the channel and move on.

Hi Gary, do you think there is any chance of getting the information that was supplied by AMG from another source?

Here's what I get when I try to run EPG123 Client:

Well then... let me look at my code to see what I can find.

Actually, I would suggest you perform a WMC TV Setup... that will clear any issues with merged channels. Go ahead and accept the Program Guide ToS since it doesn't mean anything anymore. If it still has a problem, then it will probably be with a lineup and not a merged channel.
