New EPG123 Install - Red icon in WMC

Hello all, new install of EPG123. getting the red icon in WMC homepage, it will bother me unfortunately. But things seem to be working. Any help with the errors in the log? my intsall wasn't exactly clean, but i reintalled everything a second time. perhaps i should just redo everything?

just wanted to state some info in case it helps. HDHomerun Prime user with cablecard. for the most part this is working, guide seems to be replaced and updated! I hope i can continue to run WMC. If this works as well as it appears to so far i will be signing up with schedules direct and donating to the wonderful Garyan2!!!! so happy to have a replacement for the rovi guide, should have been using this all along!!!

Your error was from TMDB which can supply us with movie cover art if the data from Schedules Direct doesn't have any (it is a backup). You could try to do a [Save & Execute] again, I just did an update and was able to contact them, so you should be able to as well.

Hmm, same issue for me after running again. Certainly no biggie, but i hope to resolve sometime. being an IT guy, large red X's don't sit well :)
Is the TMDB being unreachable also what leads to this line in the log, or is it perhaps a different issue?

Yes. The epg123.exe program does not talk with the epg123Client.exe program. So when epg123.exe creates the mxf file, it embeds the status in the file; in this case an error. When the epg123Client.exe program gets the file for import, it will take a look at that status and report it for the local WMC.

I'm not having any problem reaching TMDB, so don't understand why you would.

Change for next release:
I was going to say to just disable the option for TMDB in the configuration, but EPG123 will still reach out to them to see if they are alive, regardless of that option. Next release will bypass that check if TMDB is not enabled.

thx again. i'll poke around a little more. Its probably more than just trying to reach TMDB.com from that PC i imagine?

Possibly, but would also be weird to have no problem talking with Schedules Direct and the AWS servers, but not TMDB.

I too just did a new epg123 install. I thought every thing was working ok, but I too am seeing the Red epg123 logo on WMC home page. Are you saying that is normal? Or is that a warning that something is wrong? Trying to figure this all out ! Hoping to stay using MCE on 8.1 for thr next 3 yrs. Just upgraded from Win 7 last week & was surprised to get the message in 8.1 that guide data was being discontinued here as well. I guess the contract with Rovi expired & Rovi thought we would all dump MCE for Tivos and pay them $15/mo, $150yr or $600 lifetime plus plus another $200-$400 for a Box plus another $150 for mini extenders!

If you click the [View Log] button, you will see the trace.log file contents. Inside there, you will find the cause for any warnings (WARNG) or errors (ERROR). A red logo is not a good sign, obviously.

I thought the red logo was just advertising that I was using epg123 ? I look into this further. Is the log on the client or server gui? I am using single pc for both sever & client.

Both. The client and server use the same trace.log file. Both GUI's have a [View Log] button.

I am looking at log for server gui and only error / warnings I am seeing are:
"error loadmxf.exe to import new guide info..exit code 255" "existing importmxfile...failure"
"Error : failed to import .mmf file.exiting"
"Warning the imported mxf file contained a warning in its status field"


What does this mean ? Sure I be concerned?

Also if you need to change hardware (i have service call to replace a cable card & tuning adapter ) and require a new tv setup in MCE ....what changes do I need to do in epg123 gui if any thing?

Open the client and click [Manual Import]. I have seen exit code 255 in the past and it is pretty much just loadmxf.exe stopping the import for some reason. If you do a manual import and it still fails, then hopefully we'll get more information. If it succeeds it will change your logo to green or yellow if you have a warning.

I also have an error that SD is going to expire in 6 days (on a trial) could that error be cause of red logo icon?

Best to do it when not recording. There have been some reports that a recording would get aborted when an import took place.

Ok, I was able to do the manual import, icon is now yellow. So based on your earlier post that is indication that I have only 6 days of schedule direct left .

Also on my task tray I have staus of epg123 paused saying something like waiting to import ...because recording is in progress. I had stop all recordings but the status hasn't changed from paused & when I try to open server gui shortcut it won't open because another instance is already in use/open (something along those lines)

Not sure what is going on there !

EPG123 will check to see if there is a recording in progress before it starts an automated import of guide data. If there is a recording in progress, it will wait until 1 minute after the recording is scheduled to stop or 60 minutes (whichever is less), then check again if there is still a recording in progress, and so on (I believe it will do this for 23 hours, and abort if it is unsuccessful).

If you manually stop a recording, EPG123 will not know this and will continue to wait until 1 minute after the time the recording was supposed to end before continuing. I would assume this is what is happening in your situation.

As for how to force it to import, I would assume you can open the EPG123 client and import from there, but I am not sure about this one.
