Fair enough. In that case, as soon as GMT reaches 00:00, the "next day" will be available to you. All downloads from EPG123 is based on GMT/UTC/Zulu time. For me, that is 5PM.

I hope to be able to take care of my system before the end of the year, I'm still using the failing hard drive, and since I'm unable to get a disk image of it (it fails a Macrium Reflect backup) I'll probably have to use an old Macrium image backup I have that is over a year old and put it on the new drive. I'll then have to copy over the WMC database, DRM license file, task logs, and commercial skip XML files to the year old image and cross my fingers that it all works. My biggest fear is that after I remove the failing drive from the system, it will break DRM. Hopefully not. I may just leave the failing drive in there if it is a problem, but I'm not sure if I have room in the case for that.

I also plan to let windows update take over and update Win7 to the latest, not sure if I will have any problem with that, as I have not allowed Windows to patch itself for a very long time. I just feel that having it fully patched before Win7 is no longer supported might be a good idea, but if it proves troublesome, I guess I will just revert to the old image and forget about any patches.

If anyone has any suggestions or tips, I'm all ears. I think copying over the WMC database is just a simple matter of copying over the mcepg2-#.db as well as the mcepg2-# folder, but I'm not sure if that will work if the instance of WMC that is on the year old backup is pointing to a different database instance for some reason (like a rebuild in the past year). I suppose copying over this DB is not all that important if I plan on installing EPG123 from scratch (deleting the database) but I will at least need the files in the backup folder to maintain my Series add/deletes over the past year, I don't want to have to manually add/delete those.

Anyway, hopefully this will be a non-event and I will be up and running by the new year with a shiny new hard drive loaded with EPG123 chugging along for a long time to come...

i've had the PlayReady folder on my Recording Drive for going on 7 years now. NP

See:

Backup Images and Copy Prohibited Recordings thread (Thu Feb 28, 2013 12:24 pm):
viewtopic.php?f=68&t=4635#p45346

Post #14 explains the most important stuff. But a link at the end of Post #14 will take u to the site with a very simple program i have been successfully using (to have my PlayReady folder reside on my Recording Drive) for going on 7 years now.

So it doesn't matter when (from when) i restore a Backup Image- all my recordings always play. :)

Edit: The link i mentioned at the bottem of Post #14 turns out is for a site that gives example of some syntax. mb
The program i was referring is at: https://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshe ... llext.html

Gary,

As long an the auto updates via EPG123 are reliable, probably not much use for manual update. But one usage scenario is when there is a last minute change to the schedule and the last autoupdate didn't pick it up, an on-demand update may be able to get the change, but that may not make sense based on how often SchedulesDirect updates the listings and when you do the autoupdate (I would probably do it right before prime-time when most of my recordings occur).

As to the running EPG123 on-demand update from the remote, I posted an idea quite a while ago. I think it might not be too hard. The basic idea is to rename mcupdate to some new name e.g. mcupdate.orig for example then put in a new program called mcupdate that just looks at the arguments it was invoked with. The invocation from the menu in WMC to download latest guide info runs mcupdate with a recognizable argument list. if that argument list is recognized then invoke EPG123 from the small program to run a guide update. Otherwise run the original mcupdate with the given argument list to perform whatever update was being attempted. I may take a shot at doing this over the holidays if I have some spare time.
I use AHK for a lot of stuff currently and it provides an easy way to compile the scripts in to an EXE, so that would be a quick way to develop something along these lines (for those that don't have a development environment). I vaguely recall that I had already done this for something else (replace the original exe and have the replacement call the original with modified parameters).

I know of a utility that will sift through the trace.log and allow a user to retrieve this (and other useful) information simply, concisely, and quickly! :D

Update to EPG123... 77 days after installing it....

still perfect! :D :D :D

But my Cable-card died Monday (01-13-'20) and having 'EPG123' already installed and running perfectly was awesome!

The cable company was just as bad as the previous two times that a Cable-card of mine failed (and initial Cable-card pairing).:( But, like before, they did do an awesome job on my cable and deserve all kinds of commendations.:D They diagnosed and updated any cable inside and outside my house that needed it. In addition, they tested it all the way to the utility pole behind my house. One overlooked cable to a bedroom that was outdated and had two cheap splitters on it was replaced.

When all ^^ was done (it took two tech, two days) signal levels inside and outside were pristine again. They showed me this time on a new hand held device with a cool touch screen- that they started using less than a year ago- how perfect all signals on my cables were.

But when it came to pairing the replacement Cable-card... it was a total nightmare, again. :( i'm not even going to mention the paradoxical, dis-functional, crazy jumping through hoops that the cable company's techs were forced to do. (Or did i. ;)) It was simply nuts!

Having 'EPG123' already installed and working perfect was a blessing. It simplified all possibilities and questions. In other words, I knew it (and/or EPG in general) was not the problem and not going to be a problem. And having'EPG123' installed insured that; after the replacement Cable-card was finally properly paired; I'd get the best possible use of my PC's resources. :D

After my new Cable-card was finally, properly paired, (an hour ago) all is perfect again. :D And thanks to 'EPG123', WMC on my HTPC and four Xbox 360 extenders (2 MOCA + 2 Gbit eth) are as awesome as could ever be imagined.:D
