Green Icon with "+" next to it?

Yesterday the "+" showed up next to the green EPG tv icon. It's still there today. Am I supposed to do something about that?

Beware. Upgrades don't always go as planned, for any number of reasons.

If what you has works, then it works. Upgrade carefully.

THANKS! I'm going to leave it be for now. I only just installed it a few days ago, and everything works great.

I used to update religiously when a new version came out. Currently I'm running v1.2.7.0 and it looks like I updated to that version in December 2018.

Code: Select all

EPG123 Log Parser (and Report Generator) - v 1.7.3 (64 bit)

     2 [12/11/2018 12:15:07 AM] Beginning epg123 update execution. version 1.2.7.0
I started seeing the + sign a few weeks later and have had a + sign ever since.

As long as it's green, I'm a happy camper!

Wow, such a vote of confidence. :P To be fair, I have had a couple releases that didn't go as planned but they were corrected very quickly.

You can take a look at the release notes on the website to decide whether you want to upgrade or not. The upgrade itself is pretty simple, just run the setup program and it will replace the binaries. That is it.

Users typically only update when there is a problem and this latest release was really to ignore some warnings that would give a yellow icon. You're not one of them, so don't bother unless you want notified when the next release happens with another icon with the plus sign.

I think I was caught up in one of those. Anyway, it happened to me--I took a perfectly working setup and upgraded it right into the ground. I went right back with the older version, and all was well again.

There's a reason I keep old installers around. At the point where I chose to do the upgrade, you had already removed the installer for the version I had and knew worked.

My message remains: upgrade carefully. Just because there's a plus sign there, doesn't mean you're obligated to do anything. If what you have works, there's zero reason to change it.

The ease of updating DOES make it tempting. I DID look at the upgrade notes, and as you surmised, I am not affected. However, if I could offer a suggestion; I would update if the "+" sign only lasted for a few days and then disappeared. That way if I didn't want the update, it would eventually disappear anyway, and when another update came out, the "+" sign would appear again. This would prompt me to check the update notes to see if it was something I should do. BTW, thank you for all of your hard work! Even the spousal unit thinks this program has improved the entire WMC experience.

Because of the Server/Client nature of the program, I don't think I could do this and make it work for everybody. What I do have that is already in place is if you go to the 'About Guide Listings' in WMC, it will tell you what version the MXF file was created with and what version is available if it is not the latest.

I did the upgrade on Saturday (yesterday.) I thought, I should probably do this, just so I don't fall so far behind in my updates, that it really WILL be hard to upgrade if it DOES become necessary. According to the PDF manual, and even mentioned several times by garyan2, all that needs to be done is to run the setup program, nothing else. So that's what I did. Afterwards, nothing looked different or seemed updated. But for my own piece of mind, I checked the log, and it did mention the new version. So I waited until it did its daily update, to see if the "+" would leave the icon (which would be today,) and yes, the icon no longer has the "+". So I won't have any fear of doing an update again whenever they come out. :D

You don't have to worry about it being hard to upgrade later on if you skip versions.
