epg123 scheduled task returns 0xFFFFFFFF

#1

Post by tomkon » Tue Dec 11, 2018 7:40 pm

I am running epg123 ver: 1.2.6 on Win7. I did a fresh install of this version. I did not delete and recreate a new Task. I did have to change the path in the Actions pane of the scheduler.

The guide is not updating from the task scheduler. The task is returning 0xFFFFFFFF when it runs. The log is showing an error with "File epg123.mxf does not exist."

If I run the task manually in the Windows task scheduler, it shows a Status of "Running", but stays that way for hours. A new MXF file is generated within a few minutes, but the task just keeps running.

Your task is still not correct after you changed the path. I suggest you delete and recreate the task to make sure it is correct.

In reference to the task status always showing "Running"... the task scheduler does not do live updates. You have to actually demand a Refresh of the window in order to see the current status. Since you are getting a return of -1 (0xFFFFFFFF), we know the task is completing.

I created a new scheduled task but it is still failing with 0xFFFFFFFF and the log shows everything completed ok but still could not find epg123.mxf.

The epg123.mxf file was recreated with time stamp of when I ran the task and is 9,810 KB in size. The file is located at "C:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123\output".

Output from log (NOTE: Log always shows Another instance of epg is running, but I watch Task Mgr and see no instance before I run task, then an instance shows up when run and few minutes later is gone.)

Do you have 2 separate tasks trying to run at the same time, or is the task calling epg123.exe twice somehow? Note that task actions are executed serially, so I don't see how this is possible with a single task.

As an FYI: if the mxf file truly could not be located, then it would say "[ERROR] File "C:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123\output\epg123.mxf" does not exist. That is why I suspect that you may have another task running at the same time and pointing to the wrong location.

Here is the Actions listed in Task Scheduler
Start a program "C:\Program Files (x86)\epg123\epg123.exe" -update
Start a program "C:\Program Files (x86)\epg123\epg123Client.exe" -i "epg123.mxf" -match

I didn't see a section in your guide on the settings for the task scheduler so I just used the ones in the task that was created at install.

For the second action, change to
Start a program "C:\Program Files (x86)\epg123\epg123Client.exe" -i "C:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123\output\epg123.mxf" -match

I'll have to take a look at my to see if/why the task was created without the path to the mxf file.

EDIT: forgot the \output folder in the suggested path.

That path fixed it. Thanks!
History of how I got here. Was running v1.2.1. Ran Windows Uninstall, then reinstalled v1.2.6. That is when the scheduled task error started.

Suggestion:
Add a section in user guide that shows the various scheduled task settings.

Hi, hijacking this thread - I've been getting this error also for the last ten days or so. I've tried a few different versions of epg123 and tried recreating the task. It doesn't want to update the mxf file for some reason!

A bit lost for ideas now!

I just did a successful download of your lineup with all 158 stations without any issue. Your update is failing while building the UI+ support file which is reading in the current support file and adding new series information. Either the current json file is corrupt, or a cached series file is.

Have you cleared the cache and tried again? From the configuration GUI, click the [Clear Cache] button and wait for it to complete before trying an update again. In your case, I would also recommend deleting the "c:\epg123\output\mmuiplus.json" file before updating as well... this points out that I didn't think of that one!

Did something happen around 10 days ago with your system? It seems strange that something in your cache may have been corrupted at the same time as your MXF file got corrupted.

Hi, I believe the .json was corrupt. I took a look and the PC did unexpectedly restart on the 22nd and 23rd. I had already tried clearing the cache which I forgot to mention.

All working now - thanks!

Posting now in case I can't fix this soon but I am having the same issue.

I noticed my guide listings weren't updating and the scheduled task had a different error. I deleted and recreated the scheduled task and now I get 0xFFF... error when the task runs. I am trying a clean start right now and finalizing the import so hopefully that fixes it, but if not, wanted to get this posted.

This is what I see from earlier

Also I re-ran the entire setup from clean and I still see no guide data. Is there any delay in WMC or anything I need to do to get the guide data? I'm basically dead in the water and no recordings are scheduled.

To populate the guide, open the client and click the Match by: [# Number] button. When you did a clean start, you lost the channel to guide mapping and have to reestablish that.

So if I understand correctly, a manual update (using [Save & Execute]) works fine, but the scheduled task does not?

Ok that worked. thanks got my guide data back.

Yes the manual update with Save and Execute worked, but the scheduled task failed. I'll try again later when I have more time.

It sounds like you have a permission problem. The user credentials of the task does not have access to the epg123 folders. That would be the first place to look.

Ok thanks again, I'll take a look tomorrow. I knew something was up when my recordings weren't displaying updated data, shows like Colbert were only showing basic information without guests. when I went look at the guide data it was only going out another week or so. Glad I got this resolved relatively quickly.
