Feature Request: Disable Update Checking

#1

Post by Scallica » Wed May 18, 2016 1:39 pm

Gary,

Is it possible to add a checkbox in the GUI to enable/disable update checking on startup? I prefer not to upgrade if things are working and every time I start EPG123 a popup box appears indicating a newer version is available.

Thanks.

Actually, I could probably get rid of the pop-up altogether since that information is available in the About Guide in WMC... but you would have to update in order to remove the nag about updating. :D If there are no objections to removing the pop-up, consider it gone.

:?: How often do you open the GUI? I envisioned epg123 as a set and forget kind of thing until you needed to add a new channel to download.

I'd prefer keeping the popup and adding a checkbox in the gui to disable. Myself, I rarely look at the About Guide.

I use the GUI to initiate guide updates. Force of habit since before the scheduled task option was added. ;)

How about reporting it back via an email notification or something like that. I agree set it and forget it. I look at the logs every day still but You've done such a fantastic job I'm beginning to wonder why I do that!

Since there is really no need to go into the GUI frequently, I like the pop-up notifying me of a new version. If not a pop-up, at least a banner at the top of the app or something.

I actually slipped the changes in for this in 0.9.8. There will no longer be a popup in the GUI, but there will be bold, red, all caps banner at the bottom stating an update is available. Won't be able to miss it.

In the About Guide in WMC, instead of just saying "(Update Available)", it will now say "(vX.X.X Avaliable)". Should satisfy everyone and still meet its objective.
