Just loaded today so scheduled update won't run till tonight. Can try running from the tray icon. BTW checked and I have .NET 2.0 3.0 3.5 and 4.0.30319

Okay, unfortunately it looks like .NET 4.5 and above support TLS1.2. Looks like updating .NET on your machine will fix the problem.

I'll have to find some time to re-target my project to .NET 4.5, but it will take some time. Updating your machine will add the proper support, and once I re-target EPG123, .NET 4.5 or above will required anyway.

You just need to install 4.5. I don't necessarily need to re-target my project, but since it will be necessary any way I'm going to look to see if there is any advantage for my code to do so. At a minimum I need to update the installation package to require 4.5 (and install if missing).

I went ahead and installed .NET 4.8 since I found a Microsoft standalone .NET 4.8 installer for all OSes After installing, EPG123 started working just fiine and my HTPCs all updated the guide properly. Thanks for all the help.

Overnight scheduled task worked fine last night. However, I am a bit concerned about what happens when SD decides to retry their new software. At the end of this week I am going to be away for a few weeks, and will not be in a position to install another of Gary’s excellent rapid EPG123 workarounds!

I went home at 6PM last night and had the green (no errors) with + icon. All the guide info seems to be good, but I ran in to other problems. A couple of scheduled recordings missed, but worse, going into Recorded TV in WMC , then Scheduled Recordings I tried to issue a command to "Do not record" a program that somehow was set up to record (I did not even schedule it!!!!). When I did so, everything froze. I could not exit or even revert back to the PC desktop, had to do a hard re-boot of the PC, you know power button hold, etc. Anyone else seeing this? (I will say that I may have been one of the last to lose my guide and was setting up a recording Sunday about 7PM when the who guide went belly up.) I know there is a way to clean out all the scheduled recordings in the WMC settings, but hate to do that if not necessary. Thoughts anyone? (Yes, Gary, once I get this sorted I will be upgrading, but the above is the overriding issue I face short term.)

There were some reports that the guide data was a little weird after SD brought the old servers back online. WMC would have seen a bunch of changes in program schedules and data and it may have simply gotten really confused.

Take a look at your log file, particularly during the verify procedure after the mxf file is imported. If it shows a high number of corrections then that may be it.

I will do that and your theory makes sense. If so, best to wait or try a fix? Does not sound like using the WMC program error correction would work. Maybe clean out the scheduled recordings and make new ones?

As of this evening, key stuff was back to normal, I was able to alter the functions in Recorded TV, Scheduled Recordings, etc with no freeze up. There were some shows I never set up to record as series, such as Sponge Bob Season 7. (Can't wait for season 8 ;)

Thanks to Gary and others for weighing in on this little (mis) adventure. Keeps us on our toes, right?

Obviously I did a quick job on the viewer, but not sure on remembering size and location. It is a child form of 3 different executables... configuration GUI, client GUI, and notification tray. I can easily have it remember locations for the GUIs, but they will all be unique for each application (and user). This is why I simply set to maximize.

Next update will have right-click copy as well as an option to open another log file.

You WMC database is corrupted.

You are running a pretty old version of EPG123 and I can't remember if it does garbage collection for you. Open a command prompt and run "START /WAIT c:\windows\ehome\mcupdate.exe -dbgc -updateTrigger" without quotes. Wait for it to complete and return the c:\ prompt then try an import again. This can take a considerable amount of time depending on your database size... just let it go until it is done.

If there are errors from mcupdate, or the import still didn't work, then I would suggest you use the [Rebuild WMC Database] button in the client. Be aware that rebuilding the database will cause you to lose recording histories so if you have a series set to record new and reruns, WMC will forget what you recorded in the past and record them again if they show up in the guide. Also, you will lose any movie coverart that was viewable in the movie library that you recorded. Everything else will be restored to include your recording requests.

Is it prudent to just rebuild the database and not worry about mcupdate? I don't record any reruns anyway, and I don't care about coverart.

There is a risk that your WMC configurations have not been backed up. If that is the case, and when epg123 tries to force a backup prior to deleting the database and it is so corrupted that the backup fails, then you will lose more than the histories.

If you want to take the risk of having to setup WMC again, then go for it.

You may want to update epg123 before you do it. Like I said, your version is pretty old. Plus newer versions will perform garbage cleanup for you every 5 days to try and avoid this scenario.

Just a quick update to note that I have had two automatic updates complete and everything has worked, per usual.

THANKS GARY! You continue to keep me in WMC functionality, at least until next year when 8.1 goes off security patches and then I'll have to sort something else out. ;)

Downloaded and installed the new version of EPG123 (thanks Gary!), and tried to manually update a few times. A couple failures and then what looked like success...but instead a failed attempt, twice in a row.

i'm no expert, but curious how many days does ur WMC EPG have?

i haven't updated EPG yet, and as a result my WMC EPG ends in 14 days.

as long as ur WMC EPG shows more than 14 days (21 days or so) and u updated it during busy times (day time maybe) then i'd chalk it up as a success. and errors should go away eventually. Also, updating (Scheduling EPG123 to) some time between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM may help increase odds of reducing errors or eliminating them all together.

Gary Help!

I was unable to run "START /WAIT c:\windows\ehome\mcupdate.exe -dbgc -updateTrigger". It would return unable to locate file errors.

I was able to run "START /WAIT c:\windows\ehome\mcupdate.exe". It took no time at all to run. Now I cannot do a "Manual Update" from the client. It returns a "There was an error importing the MXF file" error.

Nothing appears to have changed within WMC. Any help is appreciated.

EPG123 has been running successfully week, but when I went into the guide data, I noticed that it only extends through 8 PM on 5 June. There are no errors in the log file. Anyone else having this issue? I'm still running 1.7.1.4 because I was having problems with 1.7.1.5 and newer versions.

EDIT: just saw the earlier discussion about installing .NET 4.5. I'll do that, update to 1.7.1.7, and see what happens. I've got a few programs recording right now, so I won't be able to run an update until they're done.

UPDATE: After installing .NET 4.8, 1.7.1.7 is running with no errors. However, I'm still only getting data through 5 June. This is frustrating...I don't understand what's wrong.

Argh! I did a "Rebuild WMC Database" in EPG123, and it went off without a hitch. I ran another update, and there were no errors. However, I now have NO data beyond 8 PM tonight! Here's the log file from the latest update, if anyone can figure out what's going on:

'DaysToDownload: 1" means you only have it set to download 1 day of data in the EPG123 config GUI...

Here is an example of it set to download 14 days of data, change that value from 1 to the number of days you want:
