EPG123 setup

I set up my EPG123 this time last year and it was working fine, but I I let it expire. This year I was issued a new password and was told that I would need it in order to receive the current downloads. Do I need to follow the steps outlined at eg123.garyan2.net? If so, where do I apply the password? Or can I just apply the password to my present setup, which had been working last year?

Just open the configuration GUI. It will fail to login with the old password and then you will be able to enter the new password. Thats all you need to do.

Thanks Gary, by configuration GUI you mean the Client Set up?

No, not the client. The server part (EPG123) as can be seen in step 3 of the setup.

I see you're showing EPG123 Configuration v1.6.3.0. I don't know what version EPG Client Guide Tool I was using, but it's old and I don't see any way of getting to something that's called EPG123 Configuration. Should I install EPG123 Configuration v1.6.3.0? You indicated I only need Step 3. I'm willing to give it a try but I was hoping that I would be able to keep what I've got and get it to work. I just need to let it know my new credentials. Or is this wrong thinking? There's going to be a delay in any reply from me because I'm going to bed.

Wherever you installed EPG123, navigate there and open the file "epg123.exe". That is the configuration GUI.

I entered my new username (snjmci) and password (which I use to log on to Schedules Direct) into the EPG 123 Configuration v1.3.0 and received "Message: invalid username or token has expired. Response: invalid user". Please advise.

I'm just going to advise the quickest way here. Rename the file "epg123.cfg" to "epg123.cfg.bak" and then open the configuration GUI again. If it still does not let you login, then your username and password are not correct.

You are right; my password was incorrect. I corrected that and I received List 1 which looks correct. So I selected Create to download at a particular time and I received a message: "Ready. The task has now yet run. Exit: 0x00041303". At the selected time I seem to get computer activity and modem activity. But I checked downloads: nothing.

Take a look at the log file. Did you rename the cfg file? If so, did you restore it and then put in the correct password?

No, I did not rename the cfg file because I went directly to changing my password and it allowed me to get into EPG 123 Configuration v1.3.0 file and view List1. I assume that that meant that my password was successful and what I described to you was a secondary problem.

Possible. Check the log. If you open the configuration GUI again, does it successfully log in automatically?

I do not see any problem but your eyes are better than mine. When I open the configuration file I was told access denied. It showed my List 1. I was offered an update to V1.7.0.

You can't have the GUI open when the task runs. For now, just open the GUI and click [Save & Execute] to update your guide.

Your scheduled task will run fine next time as long as the gui is closed.

The situation looks much better. Some of the listings were populated to the Guide. Does it take time for the Guide to be completely populated? The positions where the Guide wasn't populated I can still request record there I just don't know the name of the program I am recording without consulting a different guide. Will this correct itself in time? If not, what is my next step? What are the advantages, if any, in upgrading? I certainly appreciate your patience in walking me through this. All because I didn't keep my subscription active!

It should have populated all the stations immediately.

As far as upgrading, there have been a whole lot of improvements over the last 26 months since 1.3.0.0 was released. Too many to list off actually, but the big reason for you upgrading is that epg123 will take care of database management which may or may not still being done from when you installed it before the Microsoft servers shut down. Also, with changes on the Schedules Direct side, the newer versions help greatly with program images.
