Hi please bare with me I’m not very technical
Running win10 64bit my WMC 8.8.4 stopped working yesterday wouldn’t allow me to record!
I uninstalled it.
then installed 8.8.5 now all works as it should, in my previous install I had tried with to no avail to move where my recording’s were saved
So tried on 8.8.5 this allows me to click the + selector causing it to show the next drive letter D then it freezes not allowing me to do anything!
Checking task manager it shows WMC using very hi resources !
Only way to continue is to end WMC process thus closing it down
Cheers Paul

Amend the recording location and watched folders in the registry:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording
RecordPath and WatchedFolders are the two entries to edit. Just put the path to the folder you want in them.

Sure no problem...
Start menu then type "Regedit" open it (Registry Editor)
Navigate to
Code: Select all
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording
either by pasting it into the bar at the top of the page or drilling down in the folders on the side.
Double click the RecordPath entry and the box like below will pop up and type in the location of the folder you'd like to record in.
Do the same for WatchedFolders - this is where WMC will look for recorded tv files to add to the library. (you can add more than one location here if you have recorded TV in the old location as well, just separate them by hitting enter after each file path)
Hope this helps.

Many thanks, i note on this 8.8.5 install when in "setup tv signal" it only finds 1 dvt tuner my BlackGold pci card has 2, both were found ok on previous version.
during its search it initially turns on the diode on the card showing its running but after
a few seconds it switches off ! presumably when its found one of the tuners ? any ideas

You're welcome.
Someone else will have to answer about the tuners I'm afraid as I use DVBLink to manage channels and tuners rather than direct through WMC, so I'm not sure what could be the cause.

You can do both of those things in the GUI...under the Recorder settings.

I used the GUI settings, but they would not change the fact that my videos were saved on my C: drive. The registry change solved the problem for me. I don't know why the GUI settings aren't working for me . . .
