WMC Speaker setup goes straight to troubleshooting build 1511

I have WMC setup for the most part but I am running into one problem. I can't complete my speaker setup, and I don't get 5 channel surround from live TV or bitstreaming from MKVs like I normally do. I have windows set to stereo, and when I try to setup my speakers in WMC, I get a message saying troubleshoot your speakers. I am running v8.1 of WMC, and I have a MSI gt1030 graphics card hooked up via HDMI. Anyone else run into trouble like this? Is there some registry hive where I can set my sound up without going through the menus?
