Can I install windows media center in windows 10?

Windows Media Center is being phased out but there is a positive side to this discontinuation. Windows 10 has a large codec library with native media streaming build in via DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) this might sound familiar since Media Center also used DLNA as a backbone. The migration isn’t as painful as one might expect, and if you had set up a media streaming library in the past, there’s good news, you already know the concepts and process.

The difference in Win10; no Windows Media Center application (they removed that TV-friendly interface from Windows 7 and 8 and no built-in DVD playback but there's an easy workaround (more on that later)).

Your home entertainment can still flourish! iPads, home theater equipment, phones, consoles; you name it, can connect. With Win10 we get native support for FLAC audio, MKV video (natively supported!) and even 4K-friendly HEVC video (High Efficiency Video Coding, H.265, and 4K compression); which in the past had bottle necked your media center. You can continue to use the “play to” options in Win8 which is now called “Cast” via MiraCast compatible devices. (aka HDMI over WiFi)

So it’s not all bad and if you still miss having a nice TV interface, you still have the old standards of for your Home Theater PC environment utilizing Emby, Kodi, Plex, anything you wish.

DVD playback on Windows 10:
Since Win10 nixed native DVD playback we have a few options to regain this oddly simple task.

Not sure how the topic went from installing WMC in W10 to different alternatives to WMC.

That being said, there are ways to getting WMC to run in earlier versions of W10
