Sounds like. I use W10 v1607 14393.953 too
- Unable to play any wtv file: error message
- Reinstall v8.8.1 = Ok but impossible to setup live tv ("no tuner found") ou speakers (message "windows media center has stop working etc")

Same situtation in both BC and my surface pro 4 (used to whatch my recorded TV)

Removed update KB4013429 which fixed the problem for now.
DVD player also doesn't work. Other people have complained about this problem.

Perhaps MS may fix the problem?

In addition to breaking WMC, the update also broke Media Player and DVD player.

The suggestion on MDL of rolling back comppkgsup.dll in both system32 and syswow64 resolved the problem in all three programs for me but given that MS broke two of their supported programs, maybe they will provide a long term fix for whatever broke them in another patch.

Me too. :(

I was going to try a reinstallation of WMC - has anyone tried that? Or is it a waste of time?

Why?

The problem is in Windows, not Media Center.

Absolutely no use to reinstall it, tried it twice and fix nothing, instead things will going worse because you won't be able to setup media center

The only way the community found for the moment is to replace the dll file, this fix the problem. At the other hand, it corrupt windows system file, with a potential security breach in your system

Some people in mydigitallife forum talk about fixing the problem in manipulating their codecs, so they didn't have replace any system file, but the author of the post don't remember what kind of operation he did to have such success :'(

There is already a discussion in Microsoft forum:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 5b4f40d978

But no real solution yet,

I tryed to fix by uninstalling Sajrk 007 codec pack, no change. So I installed latest codec pack, still no change. I can see the problem on two WIn 10 machines. Already Mediaplayer crashes when opening MPG or WTV video file. WMC crashes on LiveTV and on video playback. Kodi and VLC are working, but I prefer WMC.

Bonjour,

In answer to dojo who posted earlier. Microsoft has a tool to enable you to stop a specific update from installing automatically. search for this: wushowhide.diagcab You can also find it from KB3073930 at this URL https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

I have uninstalled KB4013429 and WMC is now working again. I have run the tool mentioned above and ticked the box the stop it reinstalling again automatically. As this was a significant security update, hopefully MS will issue a fix soon as even though they do not support WMC it would appear that the new CompPkgSup.dll that was installed with this update breaks the Win 10 DVD player as well.

Hope so. I'm worried about WMC and W10 creator update which come soon.

Just to update, I had the same problem. Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player threw a "...stopped working" error anytime I tried to play certain files. Also, Plex Media Player wouldn't open at all. I tried replacing the CompPkgSup.dll's, as described in the MDL link. That prevented the "...stopped working" error, but Plex complained about those dll's, and WMC instead threw a missing codecs error.

So in the end, I had to uninstall the problem update (KB4013429) and "hide" it using Microsoft's wushowhide.diagcab tool. It's available here:

Microsoft is aware of the issue relating to anything uses MPEG-2 libraries and can be seen as an issue awaiting a fix at this link:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/hel ... -kb4013429
Today I have been offered early access to Creator Update which doesn't seem to offer anything of interest to me. I bet it breaks WMC again!

Can anyone here read this language? KAPUT is about the only word I understand.

It appears MPEG and WTV are broken in Win10 14393
