Most of us are moving to LTSB 2015 or 10586 with disabled updates. Its been 2 months trying to fix CableCard in 14393, however OTA works as well as anything Non-Protected, Non protected satellite works as well.
I did get all the non DRM channels working in 14393, using DVBLink Server. DVBLink creates Virtual Tuners that WMC is able to see

When your 7 stops working, like XP did recently....This will not seem like a lot of work.WMCuser wrote:seems like a lot of work when it works Perfect on Windows 7. get two computers and run one with 10.
You are correct though, it is a lot of work, but I enjoy working on projects that are impossible.

It's a lost cause. As Windows 10 progresses in RED ROCK WMC hooks are falling by the wayside. From what I have managed to analyze the cause is .NET objects changes. The last update to my wife's non-Insider laptop killed WMC altogether and it will not start.

LTSB 2015 and 10 Pro 10586 work fine. Admittedly WMC in Win10 is a bit of a "novelty". The added effort to keep it running is not for everyone. My 10586 has been running since last winter, with no effort from me.

Crash, quick OFF TOPIC question. I have 3-4 Windows 10 Pro licenses for assorted machines in my home, including my HTPC, Can a Pro be turned into a LTSB version, or do I need to "buy/hack" another copy ?Crash2009 wrote:LTSB 2015 and 10 Pro 10586 work fine. AFAIK LTSB is fresh only....no upgrade. I haven't had the need to activate mine yet.DavidinCT wrote:Crash, quick OFF TOPIC question. Edge is very weak. You will need some additional protection. My Edge blew up 2 or 3 times, I tossed it and went with Vivaldi.Paul Anderegg wrote:I am considering running Windows 10 in a virtual machine inside of my Windows 7 Media Center HTPC...just need a quad-core...all the fun and glamour of Windows 10 apps and Edge but based on Media Center core.

Not sure if you are interested in this.....If your live TV is non-DRM, WMC will work inside Win10, and the VM.

When 7 stops working ? If your using 10 your worse off as far as WMC goes. If your using Microsoft guide data, then that is the worry here, if your not and using EPG123, then this should not even be a worry.Crash2009 wrote:When your 7 stops working, like XP did recently....This will not seem like a lot of work.WMCuser wrote:seems like a lot of work when it works Perfect on Windows 7. get two computers and run one with 10.

If you need to run 10, then play away with this version but, your waiting for a update to break everything. If you want to disable updates (fairly easy across versions), then you deal with the advantage of 10 being gone, as store apps wont work after a while and you will deal with the same life span of 8.1 (as it is ripped from 8.1).
I have an image of my HTPC with Windows 10 pro, striped down, no updates, no Anniversary and I felt there was not an advantage to it, I changed my 2nd OS BACK to 8.1. It performs better, no DRM issues and it's faster on the same hardware (WMC tends to run a little faster). I have a backup of 10 incase I find I want to play again.
My Primary OS on my HPTC is Windows 7, there is just no reason to change from it, it's the most stable OS for a WMC machine. Even 8.1 has some minor advantagesas far as the OS goes but, in WMC, none at all, in fact disabled options.

I am quite happy with Win 10 and WMC on my current HTPC. I see no reason to return to 8.1 or even 7. This is now the best HTPC I ever had, but there are still small things to improve, but I am working on it.

Please forgive my N00bitity! I just lost my WMC on my W10 Pro x64 v1607 (14393.576). Despite the fact that I never was able to get the guide to work properly, I liked the fact that I could use my HDHomerun to watch TV. I would like to get this done properly so I can look to replace/upgrade my Living Room Win7 HTPC. I tried finding the steps but there are a few versions and the steps are a little conflicting. Is there a step-by-step proven guide with download links that I may use? Maybe "stickying" it would be helpful for others as well? All assistance would be appreciated.1ST1 wrote:I am quite happy with Win 10 and WMC on my current HTPC. I see no reason to return to 8.1 or even 7. I'm strictly OTA at the present time but I do have two USB CableCARD readers from a past configuration I may use in the future if possible.
Thanks again

Just to add my 2 cents.
I have a Win10 (10586) running WMC v12, works perfectly.
Win10 (14393) with WMC v 8.8.1 and DVBLink Server V6. No DRM Channels.
I have a LTSB 2015 on a different box, but havent had time for WMC yet.
And of course, I kept my Win7 WMC....unbreakable.

I recently had to reinstall my Win 10 due to some strage crash and then it did not boot anymore. So I reinstalled, let it do all updates, and then I again tryed to install V12. This failed due to some strange dism error. Now I have V87 up and running. V87 does not use dism but other mechanism, seems to be more reliable. Please note for V87, that you can edit the installer batch file to get a green or blue skin on WMC. I think green is default, but I prefered again blue. Like before the crash, it works again perfect. Now as I come to a status where my HTPC runs better and better I need now to make an image of the installation to be prepared for another crash (hope, not...)
