HDHR2MXF Update command does nothing

I've tried using EPG123 Client to create guide listings from HD Homerun but nothing happens. If I use Client setup it goes thru all the steps til I get to step 3 Configure EPG123 and it asks do you wish to proceed with HDHR2MXF? and a command window opens briefly and then closes with an error message stating " There was an error importing the MXF file " Also at the bottom of the box for Client setup it says " Running HDHR2MXF to create the guide... " After closing the error window It will ask to click the 3 button to try again but I never get any results. I believe I have followed the installation and setup as was shown in the EPG123 video guide for setup and I'm definitely at a loss as to what is wrong.

Do you have a subscription to Silicon Dust's DVR service?

No, I do not. I thought that I had read that a subscription was not necessary to get listings from HD Homerun. Am I in error? This is from the EPG123 website. "If you use SiliconDust HDHomeRun tuners and receive listings for their slice guide, you may be able to import that data into WMC without any additional cost."

I should clarify that on the website.

Early on, if you used SiliconDust tuners, hdhr2mxf would be able to download 24 hours worth of guide. Shortly after I announced that, SiliconDust contacted me and kind of asked me not to do that. Their servers that supply the data were not meant to handle traffic like this. A Kodi developer had done the same thing a few months earlier and SiliconDust's servers were being hit hard with all the activity. As a compromise, SiliconDust created the ability to download an XMLTV file with 2 weeks worth of guide but it was only for their DVR service subscribers.

I respected their request and removed the ability to get the 24 hour "free" guide and now only support the 2-week XMLTV guide for DVR subscribers.

So if I were to subscribe to their DVR service the process would then go through or do I have to do something different?

If you subscribe to their DVR service, which is $35/year, then the hdhr2mxf will generate the MXF file to supply guide listings for WMC. Or you could get a membership with Schedules Direct for $25/year and use EPG123 to create the MXF file instead. The primary benefit of hdhr2mxf is for those users that already have the DVR service and they won't need the Schedules Direct membership (no additional cost above their $35/year DVR service).

What about using the program data that is embedded in broadcast signal for us OTA users? Would that be possible? It wouldn't be probably but a few hours but it would be acceptable for live viewing.

Not with hdhr2mxf. You will want to look at EPG Collector (https://sourceforge.net/projects/epgcollector/). Steve has made a lot of improvements with the generated mxf file in the last ~9 months. I will warn you it is not the easiest thing to set up, but it does work once you get it going. I think with HDHomeruns you may need to change the BDA Compatibility Mode to something other than WMC.
