UK Freeview frequency changes in 2018

#1

Post by IT Troll » Sat Jan 13, 2018 7:54 pm

Just a heads up. 2018 is going to be a year of frequency changes and re-tunes for Freeview viewers in the UK. This is all part of the 700MHz clearance programme for 5G mobile.

BBC4 HD and Cbeebies have just been moved to a temporary channel in readiness for more channel shuffling.

Then later in the year there will be many more moves and re-tunes.

Second round of frequency changes hit Scotland today. Wales and a few other areas are later this month.

Looks like I have lost reception of COM7 and COM8 multiplexes because they have now moved to high channels which are out of range for my aerial. Grrr.

Apparently, up 270,000 households will need a new aerial, or other work, by the time the clearance is complete. However, DigitalUK’s own documentation states that this is just an estimate and nobody really knows. You can at least get a free engineer visit by calling the Freeview Advice line if you have problems (but only if you have no other way to receive the missing channels). If necessary, this may result in them fitting a new wide-band aerial (free of charge). The areas in green are the ones most likely to experience reception problems.

The clearance programme continues until 2020.

There are a few small channel changes this week in Scotland to make way for the new BBC Scotland channel.

Then after that, the 5G frequency clearance programme continues across the UK through to 2020.
