Guide search in WMC returns no results in Vista

#1

Post by timidhermit » Mon Sep 26, 2016 1:34 pm

I have Windows Media Center for Vista. Fixed the EPG cutover many months ago when data provider was switched.

Just now, the search function in the guide no longer works. Whatever I searched, no results were returned. The guide is correctly downloading, and I can tag shows to record by viewing the guide itself. However, none of the guide data are being indexed.

I read posts on "turning on" index function in Windows 7. But the same option does not exist in Indexing Options in Vista. I don't know what to do.

Please help!!!!

There is bugs going on right now with guide data, you might be effected by it... A lot of people are not getting guide data...

May I add, find a copy of Windows 7 and get rid of Vista... The Vista version of WMC is weak compared to the Windows 7 version (the best version on any OS right now)

DavidinCT,

Thanks for the reply. Is my problem with the failing Guide search part of the same problem given the fact that I am receiving the guide data? It is just that the data is not searchable using the guide search.

Is there a thread you recommend that I can follow to read up on any update? There are so many threads about guide problem. I can't tell which one is the current one that everyone goes to keep track of this.

I am not familiar with WMC on Vista, but on Win7, the search uses the same index and data as the regular windows search. So you have to make sure that windows search is indexing WMC by looking at "indexing options".

Edit: Just reread your original post and see you already checked this. Sorry, there is little info on Win7 WMC in general and even less so for Vista WMC.

If the Media Center IS supposed to be in the "Indexing options" I think this post explains how to add it back, but it is not for Vista, so not sure if it will work:

This seems to indicate that Vista should have Media Center in the indexing options:

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, Space!

OMG! Your proposed solution worked. Even though I am using Vista, the solution for Windows 8 works to reindex the EPG from Windows Media Center. I waited a few hours for the indexing to complete. The guide search function is working again!

Awesome! Glad it worked!

Looking back at that thread I referenced, it even had a post with someone saying they used to often have to use the procedure on Vista! I didn't even read that part of it when I made the reference.
