XB360 Drive failure?

#1

Post by jaimeknapp » Thu Aug 13, 2020 5:34 pm

I have had three XB360 Model 1439 consoles that only act as extenders running without any real issue for a number of years. One of them has recently displayed "Update Required. A system update is available from Xbox Live...

If I select Yes, it complains about not having enough storage space. If I cancel out of that, or select No to begin with, it will continue to load the extender app and run properly. It really just seems to be an annoyance. I know PC hardware well, but nothing about the XB360. I am not even sure whether I could load and configure the extender from scratch nowadays if I had to, so I do not want to muck it up.

Any thoughts?

Is there enough free disk space on the XB360?

When I go into Settings -> Storage Devices it shows as Unformatted.

At that point my concern is that if I select Format, I might muck up its ability to act as an extender.

"Unformatted" usually means there is a problem with the drive's partition. Formatting the drive is the next step. Yep, there is always a risk. However, no one on this forum has mentioned WMC being removed from the XBOX 360 app store. Here it is:
