Now that my Xbox 360-S extender has died (red dot of death), I started to look for alternatives for playing the .wtv files from the WMC PC over the network. I know I'll never be able to find something that will play the DRM protected content but with HBOGo and similar apps I no longer need a solution for a majority of the DRM protected content.
I was able to use the media player app available on my Roku 3 to see and play the .wtv files. The one major drawback being there being no ability to skip, fast forward or rewind (so no way to skip commercials).
Has anyone found a device that can play the non-drm files with the ability to skip or fast forward (or remember where you were in a show if you stop mid-way through)?
Extender Alternative to Playing .WTV Files

Not sure if it will help you, but VLC plays WTV formats (without having to convert the WTV to another format) and is available for a bunch of platforms. I've only used it on Win7/Win10 and iOS, though, so have no experience with other platforms.

Got one of these, an HP, in my living room with a dual core and it plays everything from everywhere on my network, next to the Roku.
