InfiniTV losing QAM lock after pairing

I own a InfiniTV 4 and mine is working great. I have a friend however that is having some troubles. He has good signal at the back of the Ceton, +2 Dbmv and gets a QAM lock before the cable card is paired. When the cable tech pair's the cable card the Ceton loses QAM lock and never regaines it. The cable tech has tried in exess of 3 cable cards as well as a hd box with a cable card in it. Ceton has also sent a replacment InfiniTV 4. The HD cable box works fine so the tech is confident it is not a signal problem. Has anybody else had this problem and if so what was the fix.
