I switched to epg123 over a year ago. Why do I still get the message "switch to an alternate tv program guide provider" in WMC? Can't seem to get rid of it. I'm definitely using EPG123, not the default guide.

I switched a week ago and today the annoying "switch to an alternate tv program guide provider" in WMC started again.
Any idea if the Dec update KB4530734 is responsible? I updated in error before learning of the full screen messages that can happen.

Hello,
Is any one else still getting the Pop up Message telling you that Guide Data will cease in Jan 2020 & to click to learn more about using alternative program provider.
I fully made the transition to Epg123.
Anyone else getting these annoying pop ups?
If so anyone know how to stop the pop up reminder?
Thanks

There are a couple of threads around the forum asking the same, but no one has found how to stop them. I think we just have to live with it until the service actually ceases. It wouldn’t be so bad if it actually provided any useful information.

I suggested this a while back, but nobody acknowledged trying it...
uncheck 'Settings > General > Automatic Download Options > Automatically download Windows Media Center data...' & save.
I did it when I switched to epg123 & I have never seen this nag, but that option seems to me like just the sort of thing to trigger it. Worth a shot? YMMV

I successfully installed the epg123 program guide and have been using it for the past week. Tonight the WMC advisory window to install an alternative to the old guide keeps popping up, often 3 or 4 times in a row, whenever I click Guide or Live TV buttons on the remote. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so found a solution?

Just tried that suggestion and it didn't help. Still getting continuous nag.
Hopefully this will clear itself out eventually.

Same as above.
And I just confirmed that removing KB4530734 doesn't fix it either.
This is really annoying.

I noticed in the windows media center settings in the registry that there is a key that is updated every time the notification is shown:
epgDeprecationNoticeTimeLastSeen contains a date
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\MCE.PerUserSettings]
if you delete it, it comes back next time you open windows media center (ehShell.exe). If you put 1, 0, or -1 in it, windows media center wont start. If you put a date in the past or the future, it will only update the key with the correct date once you open windows media center. Hopefully we can find a solution to this problem!

So I have been using EPG123 for over four months in preparation of "Switch To An Alternative TV Program Guide". I should have switched years ago... the $25 /year is worth for having accurate listings.
However tonight I was constantly bombarded with the same "Switch" notification over and over. Leave the guide... pops up. Go into guide... pops up. Go to tv recording... pops up. Clicking "Learn more" did not stop the notifications. Is there a way to stop it? Did I miss a setting in my setup of EPG123? Is there a registry hack?
Thanks in advance

Now that its January I am getting the guide warning frequently on my Windows 8 machines that download nothing from Microsoft. Since this is Windows 8, KB4493132 is not installed. Really need a way to kill these warnings!

I have the same question. Win 8.1 Pro, EPG123 and getting the guide for my WMC from my 3 tuner HD Homerun with DVR, cable card on SpectrumTV. My guide works fine, but the warning continues to pop up. I can't find any answers on how to stop it!

I uninstalled some KBs and got the message to go away. KB4530734 and KB4525251 seems to be the culprits.
Specifically, KB4525251 is the problem. Its definitely the KB that has the notification for ehShell.exe
Run this command to remove it and resolve the notification issue:

I'm also still receiving the annoying message. Win 8. WMC. Using EPG123. Was really hoping that it would go away after doing the clean setup with EPG and going through the live tv setup wizard where I did NOT accept the terms for the offered program guide. But it's still happening.
Switch to an alternate TV program guide provider
Starting in January 2020, Microsoft is retiring its Electronic Program Guide Service. To continue receiving TV Program Guide information on your Windows Media Center, you may configure an alternate TV listing provider.
I've clicked both the OK and the Learn More buttons, no change.
I've verified in Tasks -> Settings -> TV -> Guide -> About Guide Listings that it actually does say EPG123 and not Rovi anymore.
One weird thing is that when I click on Guide Terms of Service, it claims that there is no Internet service.
Any ideas? Any registry settings or anything to get rid of this stupid message?
