No guide after setup and missing channel

#1

Post by juskie » Sun Nov 04, 2018 4:24 am

I am missing channel 2, cbs in WMC. Also when I go to save and execute I get the message "There are no INCLUDED lineups and/or no stations selected for download. Do you wish to commit these changes?

When I go to WMC there is no data in the guide and channel 2 is missing. I see channel 2 in the epg123 configuration under lineup1 but it is not in wmc.

What am I Missing?

Ok. I figured out the toggle on the lineup issue. The problem is no cbs and no guide data in WMC. I have windows 7, and use an HD Homerun 4 tuner. When I open the HD Homerun viewer I can see CBS. In fact HD homerun scans and finds 82 channels, and when WMC does its channel scan it finds between 60-70 channels depending on the scan. After the scan is complete and before I go back to EPC123 config, I hit the live tv and there is no cbs. Back in epc123 config, cbs shows up and when I hit the save and execute and the window pops up the lineup shows cbs on the right, but the eipsode guide on the left does not.

Here is the log file.

I found the pdf guide and figured out how to manually ad channel 2! Problem solved. Now I need the guide. In addition to the log, here is a snip showing the configuration app with the scheduled task not running.

To get the guide listings, in the client you need to map the guide listings with the tuner channels. Click the Match by: [# Number] button.

Since you have OTA, it looks like your signal strength was not strong enough for WMC to "find" it, maybe? You can add it in WMC by

1) Settings->TV->TV Signal->Scan for More Channels, or
2) Settings->TV->Guide->Add Missing Channels (you need to know the physical channel as well as the logical channel numbers)

A final option would be to use the client to add it. To the right of the "All Scanned Sources" pulldown, there is a green '+' to manually add a channel... either expand that panel to see it or click the mini-down arrow to expand the toolbar.

Looking at your trace history, it looks like your scheduled task is also not running... were there any error in the log before that snippit?

I am not sure. The scheduled task is grayed out. When I hit the match button in your earlier post that brought the guide in. Thanks! I need to make sure it keeps updating the schedule.

There a couple conditions that need to be met before the scheduled task will run. It must be on AC power (not battery) and must have a network connection. There have been some folks that their stations falsely report it is on battery power usually due to being on a UPS. If this is the case, then the task needs to be edited to remove that conditional requirement.

It has a network connection and AC power and the guide is not updating. How do I edit the task to remove that condition when it is grayed out?

Those conditions may not be the problem. We need to find out why the task "Could not start." We can start looking for a cause by looking at your trace.log file... see what exactly the exit code is.

The task is greyed out because a task exists. But to edit the task itself, you will have to use 'Task Scheduler' and edit the Conditions.

The exit code is 0x80070002 which can mean a few things. When looking at the task in Task Scheduler, take a look at the Actions tab to make sure it is pointing to the right location. Did you create the task and then move the install location?

Based on your trace.log file, I see you are using Win10. Also based on the trace.log file is the total lack of entries means it probably is a precondition (power or network) that is stopping the task from running.

I see you deleted your task, so will need to create a new one with EPG123 to do the updates. Once that is done...

1) Open Task Scheduler (https://www.digitalcitizen.life/ways-st ... er-windows)
2) Do a test run with the task:
[*] select the 'epg123_update' task and click the 'Run' button on the right side
[*] wait a few seconds and click the 'Refresh' button on the right side to update the task status in the middle
[*] if the task status says 'Running' instead of 'Ready', then the task is okay. If not, proceed to 3
3) Double-click the 'epg123_update' task to edit the properties.
[*] Select the 'Conditions' tab
[*] Unselect the Power 'Start the task only if the computer is on AC power'
[*] Unselect the Network 'Start only if the following network connection is available'
[*] Click 'OK' to return to the Task Scheduler main window.
4) Repeat number 2

Ok, I didn't realize the scheduler was a separate windows program. I am running windows 7 not 10. When I try to create the task in either epg123 or the epg123 client it crashes the program. I opened the task scheduler and there is not epg123 scheduled task in there. How do I create the scheduled task in Task Scheduler software?

Interesting. I thought you were using Windows 10 because you got an access denied error when querying the task scheduler. This is typical for Win10 when not running as administrator, but not an issue for Win7. It looks to me now that all your issues are due to permissions. The account you are trying to create, and execute the task with, doesn't have enough privileges to do so.

Is there another account on the machine that you can create the task with?

Thanks so much for your efforts and suggestions. I logged into my admin account, deleted the task, and created a new one. Once I did that it popped up in the task scheduler. I then ran through your steps as suggested. It didn't switch to the "running" status in the client until after i unchecked the two toggles (AC/network) and reran in scheduler. Now it says "running" in the status of the client. Thanks!!!
