WMC with TV tuner that has line out problems

Hello, I have a ATI TV tuner card that I am trying to setup to use with WMC7. I have the card connected and my Digital Converter Box plugged into the Composite input (card is old and doesn't support ATSC) (and I've tested the Coaxial input and the same problem occurs) and I get a picture, but no audio. The only two ways I can get audio is by enabling in the microphone settings in Control Panel under Line In and selecting "listen", or by Enabling Line in underneath my main speaker output (also in windows audio settings). This works, but not when I try to record anything or use my Xbox 360 as an extender, as I don't get audio either way when recording. How can I fix this? The only way audio is outputted from the Card is by a 3.5mm male-to-male connector that comes out of the Tuner and into the Line in jack on my computer. Thank you for your help!

The "Digital Coverter Box" you mentioned is actually known as a DTA (Digital Terminal Adapter). The device is primarily used to watch cable TV on older non-HD TV sets. The cost of a DTA per month is typically much lower than the cost of a traditional cable box. The DTA is an analog output only device (Coax and Composite Video). However, analog signals can carry a copy-protection flag known as CGMS-A which may be causing your issue. Although it is strange that you get a video signal, but not audio.

The best course of action is to retire the ATI tuner and look into a SiliconDust tuner. Pick one that meets your needs. You may be able to get a good deal on one from eBay or from the Want/Buy section of this forum.

I used many ATI All-InWonder cards way back when they actually worked quite well with NTSC signals. None I ever used would output audio only from its their own 3.5mm line output receptacle, which I would loop back to the PC's line input receptacle. Some of the very early ones had an internal header to connect to a motherboard's CD-ROM analog receptacle, but now I am really dating myself.
