The version of WMC in the Windows 8 Release Preview has had two startup options removed:
- Start WMC when Windows starts
- Always keep WMC on top
I would have thought that these were 'must-haves' for dedicated HTPCs, but apparently Microsoft disagrees.

I guess we were wrong that 7MC=8MC. Instead 7MC>8MC.
For as long as the guide data lasts there is no reason to "upgrade" from 7MC.

Can you still run ehshell.exe with the /mediamode switch? That should accomplish the same thing as checking the box for keeping WMC on top.
As for the startup, you could put the modified ehshell link in the startup folder (or did they take that away too?), set up a scheduled task to launch it, or add it to Run key in the registry (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... 85%29.aspx).
