H265 codec

I am running WMC on 64-bit Win10. Have LAV filters installed.

But WMC can't play H265 files. Don't the LAV filters include H265? How do I add H265 codec?

What container is your file inside of. It has been a long time since I have played with this but I believe WMC doesn't play MKVs out of the box, even with a standalone version of LAV. Also, for an easier solution, uninstall LAV, and look into Shark's codec pack but be sure the newer versions of sharks work with WMC.

I'm running...

Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit [Version: 6.1.7601.23798]
Windows Media Center [Version: 6.1.7600.16385]
Shark007 Codecs 64-bit [Version: 8.8.3] © 2017 ;)

I've never used any other codecs.

I was able to download "x265 – Tears Of Steel 1080P @ 400kbps" from here https://x265.com/hevc-video-files/ and was able to play it in both WMC and WMP. I don't know if it's supposed to have audio, but it didn't when I played it.

Upate: I downloaded a few other H265 test files from various other sites including some that specifically stated they included audio. The video for all of them played without fail. I didn't hear audio from any of them.

Note -> I see that the previously posted link shows a database error. I found other sites by Googling H265 Test File.

I'm not technical enough to answer the container question - how do I know.

What I do know is that MKV files play in my WMC with LAV installed as standalone (is there a non-standalone LAV install)?

IF MKV files play in WMC then it supports MKV containers.
