You can think that if you want. I just think you were spewing stuff off the handle without logically thinking about it first, and I provided the obvious reasons for why none of it makes any sense.

Obvious in a fair world, maybe.
This isn't a fair world. Or maybe you were asleep during the financial meltdown a few years ago?
I know what "activist investors" do.

Hopefully this won't screw up the planned TiVo Pro release slated for sometime this year.... Maybe it already has
Just watch the torrents of guide complaints once Rovi become the source for TiVo. This should be fun! Perhaps it will result in a positive outcome for WMC Rovi guide users.
/in other news: Gracenote is getting clobbered. First MS run away now TiVo.

So will the new company be called Tovi or Rivo?

And that doesn't sound so good for using their data in epg123.STC wrote:Hopefully this won't screw up the planned TiVo Pro release slated for sometime this year.... Maybe it already has

We'll see if that indeed happens.
Elsewhere on this big wide internet, someone else questioned (as did I) what will happen to the "wonderful" Tivo guide, and if it will devolve to the "revolting" Rovi guide. In doing so, he wondered if the paying Tivo users would stand up and revolt.
Then it clicked for me: Tivo releases a brand new guide-included product at a nice price the day before the Rovi announcement. They can sell the heck out of that thing; when Rovi screws up the guide product and effectively turns the new Tivo into a brick, there can be no outcry from paying users--because they're not paying. Tivo already has their money, and Tivo can do whatever they want to those units.
I wonder what the customer agreement on those new units will say. No doubt it will say that effectively, we promise no functionality for the unit whatsoever, all risk is on you the buyer.

Is the quality of the WMC guide data from Rovi a fault with the Rovi data or with how Microsoft processes the data?
It seems unlikely Rovi would purchase TiVo - and then use the TiVo name - unless they planned to continue the TiVo DVR products.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming months. Assuming TiVo comes out with a 6 tuner version of their new Bolt family, that appeared to be the best alternative to WMC. That may still be true, if TiVo does release the new product - and Rovi doesn't mess up the TiVo guide data...

Well, for reference consider the history of Abercrombie & Fitch:bob_p wrote:It seems unlikely Rovi would purchase TiVo - and then use the TiVo name - unless they planned to continue the TiVo DVR products.

Tivo could choose to become anything. The name is irrelevant. Welcome to the modern business world.

Anything to do with converting the Rovi data to WMC format is on Microsoft (so no extensive metadata for movies is on Microsoft, not Rovi). But the day-to-day mistakes in individual programs (such as incorrect OAD or wrong episode ID/series IDs) is on Rovi.
On a side note, I was seeing incorrect Series IDs fairly often since the Rovi switch-over, but have not seen many recently (last one I can remember was the season premiere episode of Talking Saul), so maybe they are actually trying to fix some things, but it may just be a lull in the ineptitude.

Gracenote (formerly known as Tribune Media Services, Inc.) is currently the sole supplier of the program guide data for the TiVo service and we are transitioning the TiVo service to program guide data supplied by Rovi Corporation. Gracenote is the current sole supplier of program guide data for the TiVo service. Our current Television Listings Data Agreement with Gracenote expired on May 19, 2016. On April 28, 2016, we entered into an agreement with Rovi Corporation to supply program guide data for the TiVo service after the expiration of our agreement with Gracenote. Our agreement with Gracenote provides us with a wind-down period post-expiration to allow for the transition of the TiVo service from use of Gracenote to alternative program guide data. Gracenote has indicated that it is unwilling to provide a short term extension and that any longer term extension would be at a significant increase in cost. If we are unable to transition the TiVo service to use program guide data from Rovi by the end of the wind-down period (or if Gracenote ceased providing program guide data to the TiVo service prior to the expiration of the wind-down period and prior to our transition to Rovi program guide data), we would be subject to a period of time in which we are unable to provide the TiVo service to our customers and certain distribution partners, or alternatively, we may be unable to provide certain features or functionality which are currently part of the TiVo service for a period of time for our customers and certain distribution partners. In any of these events, our business would be harmed through the potential loss of customers, distribution partners and the associated revenues as well as potential contractual penalties and damages.

OK, that's funny. Again, "lifetime" means "as long as we decide to provide you the product".
It also means "whatever product we decide to tell you is the product. If we decide that dog poop is in fact a program guide, then by providing you dog poop we will be fulfilling our contractual obligations to you, the consumer."

I have a hunch the Rovi supply will end up being workable. There will be so many more complaints / tickets from the TiVo masses to fix things.
If there is a blip or two on the way with switch over it will be fun to watch, or not, as the case may be (there is a pun there).
*popcorn*
Us WMC users are just amoeba compared to TiVo-ites.

So will our guide data in WMC now say "Portions of content provided by TiVo Corporation?"
