I don't know if you've been following WMC NA guide problems of late, but the recently introduced MS partnership with Rovi to produce data is woefully out of spec. Mc2xml via Microsoft servers would be pulling this. Getting data from Zap2it --> schedules direct --> mc2xml is still a fighting option though although it takes more time and effort to sort out.

I'm aware of some problems, though they haven't been major for us, as far as I know.

We also just added PercData:

EPG has been something of a moving target lately.

Here is an EPG setup thread on our TV board:

What source and how does MC work with North American guide data?
Quick answer: the source is Rovi, and the implementation is via an automated built-in implementation of mc2xml. I am very averse to EPG setup (the original reason I went to WMC over Myth and other open source DVRs) and the EPG setup for JRMC was as easy as WMC.

Download the 30-day trial version and check it out.

Thanks for the info. Using mc2xml zap2it can be selected from a list.

Percdata is a new one for me, I shall investigate further.

Jim, some of the concerns being expressed over ease of use compared to WMC are valid, despite how far Theater View has come in the last few years. With WMC, it's possible to do ALL configuration of the TV signal and ALL configuration of recordings in the 10 foot user interface. The same can't be said for JRiver Media Center at this point. Right now, pretty much all TV signal configuration has to be done in standard view with a mouse and keyboard, and some recording configuration can only be done in standard view. IMO, it's really not a big deal with TV signal configuration since that's generally a 1 time thing. It's a bigger deal for recording configuration as that's more of an ongoing task for the user. But it's something that should be relatively easy for you guys to address over time and is something that's been brought up on your forums. (BTW, I'm greynolds over on your Interact forum)

FYI, the default guide data option uses Rovi, which is the same data WMC now uses.

So...after setting up an account, PercData is a clone of Schedules Direct?

I wonder how differently it copes with the Rovi data structure compared to WMC(?) Surely it sees the same glaring errors?

Essentially, yes. It would be against the terms of service to use Schedules Direct with a commercial product such as JRiver Media Center, hence support for PercData.

In my very limited testing so far, I've found no benefit to going with Percdata (which you have to pay for after 7 days) over the Rovi/mc2xml default setup (which is free / included with the MC license).

STC, I'll be very interested to hear if you find any major differences between the two.

Either PercData or Schedules Direct would be used to supply zap2it data it doesn't matter which they would just be the mechanism to do the task but the quality of data from zap2it would be superior (as good as it used to be).

I was under the impression that Rovi is a different data source than Schedules Direct, which is different than zap2it.

So default for JRMC is Rovi, with the option of using the Schedules Direct data (via PercData).

Are you saying SD/PercData use the same as zap2it? Still, Rovi is different right? So I'm curious if there are significant differences between Rovi and SD/Perc.

Mc2xml can pull from Microsofts servers (Rovi) or a choice of a few other sources including Schedules Direct (Zap2it / Tribune). You select which when setting up the tool.

Pledged $70, hopefully this one or HDRDVR will come to fruition.

I challenge you to prove this statement.
I challenge you to allow your codecs to installed offline. Until then, no. It's nothing to get wound up about. Over the years, a handful of videos from various sources wouldn't play. I've got some mp3s that WMP/WMC doesn't like. In a complicated PC environment, it's not unexpected.

I tried running the Media Server on Windows start. Bur even in the background, it steals the WMC IR. That's the price
I pay for having them both on the same machine.

Me too. Pledged the Silicondust kickstarter as well. Would be great to have a couple of options in addition to WMC. Jriver Media Center is pretty nice, not that hard to get Netflix working with WMC remote support now that you can't in WMC.

long time lurker, had to create an account just to speak to this kickstarter. I just installed Jriver for the first time now that I cant update windows 8.1 to WMC using add additional features. so now I have to hold onto the keys I already have and use them sparingly. I am liking Jriver so far, their system is pretty much on point for what I need. So here's to hoping the kickstarter succeeds... I will be supporting this.
